All quiet on the western front

I admire school bus drivers. I have no idea how they keep their sanity while driving a busload of noisy kids home at the end of the day.

But at the time of this sunset photo, the bus was empty under this light pole and the driver was inside his/her house . And I hope the driver was enjoying the beauty and serenity of the western sky as much as I was.

This old house is actually in very good repair so I was surprised to see how the shingles on the tower roof didn't match in several places. I imagine that since the angle is so steep that this requires scaffolding to work on it.

Bluebead Lily/ Macro Monday

Beads of water on bell-shaped blossom approximately 1/2-inch long

The bluebead lily (Clintonia borealis) grows in cool woods and open mountain slopes in Eastern Canada and as far south as Georgia. This plant bears one blossom and one bud, but each stalk may bear as many as eight blossoms.

In case you’re wondering where the blue bead on this bluebead lily is, in midsummer a cluster of shiny dark-blue berries will ripen atop the stalk where the blossom and bud are now.

Great white trillium - Ontario's provincial flower

This photo hints at why the great white trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) is Ontario's official flower. This time of year, the beautiful white blossoms decorate the floor of many deciduous forests throughout Ontario.

Looking Through/ Sky Watch

This photo make Lake Simcoe look much smaller tan it really is because you are looking from Island Grove over to Snake Island, which is fairly close to the southwestern shore of the lake. Lake Simcoe is a good-sized lake, though not large enough to be one of the five Great Lakes. (You remember the Great Lakes - Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior - from geography class, right?)

Out to eat! This quaint restaurant is beside the Georgina Town Hall in Keswick, Ontario.

And, yes, I coloured the first photo in layers, erasing the sepia from the red lights and train logo in the top layer before combining layers 1 and 2 by "flattening" them.
