I has been cool for late August/early September so I've only seen only a few monarchs on my Buddleia this year. But I caught one sipping nectar from the lilac-colored bush on the south side of my house.

Very good shot! I've not seen any of those around here. The flower or the butterfly. That one looks perfect. Most I have seen have damaged wings.

Oh yes,how I love this flower! When I was a child we had a bue and a white bush in our garden, and the butterflies came to drink, and for me the utmost feeling of sommer is the sight and the smell of Buddleia!

These butterflies are not plentiful this year. I suspect there is a decline in Milkweed that it grows on due to spraying. Still, it is a beautiful photograph.

I have noticed the same thing here. I have had butterflies one at a time but no clusters. My bush is not as happy either, I think it was too wet this summer for it to do really well - the flowers turned brown very quickly. They are really something to see all covered with butterflies aren't they? Like flowers on flowers!

Oh my, so much beauty, flower and monarch together...
I haven't always lived in Stanwood but have lived in the vicinity. We had a small farm that progress wanted and so now our old place is a Water company surrounded by new houses.--UGH!! I am still bitter, I guess, but I so love the little piece of country up in the hills I have now. MB

Excellent photo! I haven't seen a lot of butterflies this year either. Mostly frittilaries, a few swallowtails with chewed up wings and, sadly, no monarchs.
