Why would I change the background? Well, the bird was in focus and everything around it was too. The picture was way too busy, a total jumble. So instead of tossing it out I decided to see what I could do to modify it with PhotoShop Elements (PSE), which I'd purchased in August.
PSE is so much fun to play with! Right now it's definitely one of my favourite things.

Fishing Guy: This is what the original photo looks like cropped so the bird can be seen. The above photo was also cropped before I altered the background, so when I cropped it even more the photo became quite small. I was really too far away to take a good photo with my camera, but I couldn't resist trying. ;-)

I love the finished product. I may have to see about this photoshop software. I have one program, but it won't do this! BJ
Ohhh, now you are getting tricky!!! Makes a really interesting image.
Darla
Very cool. More proof I need software!
EG: I would have liked to see the first photo to compare. Would a crop of the bird also done the same thing?
Oh I LOVE it!! And playing with PSE is one of my favorite things too!!
How did you go about separating the bird from the background? It is an interesting concept I have never tried.
Abraham,
I altered the photo in two layers.
In the top layer, I cut away all the background.
I altered the bottom layer, then "flattened" them, PSE-talk.
I will admit that I prefer well-taken photos...but some just do not turn out well. Besides, I'm still a kid at heart and like playing. ;-)
I like the top photo. Nice job.
I love it! It looks like a painting.
My software doesn't let me cut something out and change the rest and I've seen a lot of folks using this.
It is a great way to save a photo.
Nicely done.
Interesting, EG. A total different effect. MB
Looks a good thing to have. Will check it out! My favourite is up.
What a neat idea! Good job!
I love that first shot! And great work on the layering! I love my CS3:)
Mine is HERE.Thanks! Happy SWF!
Ohhh - a new toy! I must look intoi this :)
I like PSElements. I enjoy myself very much.
PS. I agree. IMAC´s imagination is not a bad thing.
I´ve learned to appreciate all of you since my first post on here.
Thanks a lot.
it is worth it that you have posted a marvelous photo. as it is really lovely to see it with the sky…
check out mine here:HERE
This picture could't look better.
Happy SWF.
Hi Miss TG, you rescued this bird nicely. The background is nice too, but I'd rather have the sky being blue.
Happy WW! Thank you for your visit and nice comment. :-)
..
You did a really nice hob with the PS. I "liberated" my dad's unused PS back in July, but I haven't installed it yet. Soon though, 'cause your shots make me want to try this. :)
So do you know..... what type of bird is this?
How very remise of me I didn't comment yesterday.
My photo ediing skills & programme are very basic but love see the results of yours.
Best wishes

I like the finished product. Photo Shop is fun and I have been playing with filters recently also. I find using 'poster edges' highlights details that are otherwise lost in the mix sometimes. Have experimenting and exploring such a wonderful software toy!
