A closeup of American Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens)
Round, orange-yellow capsules open in autumn to reveal fleshy orange-red seedpods that remain on the plant's vines through much of the winter and provide food for birds and squirrels.
I'm so glad that nature provides food for the birds and critters during the winter. I do the best I can feeding my birds---but there are many which are not close to bird feeders.
Neat post and great picture of the Bittersweet. Hugs, Betsy
Excellent shot of a beautiful berry. They look great in Autumn Wreaths. I found a similar shrub growing wild and the berries are shaped the same only pinkish red---must be a variety. Again excellent shot. MB
East Gwillimbury is a rural town less than an hour north of Toronto, Canada's largest city.
My family calls me CameraGirl because I take my camera with me wherever I go.

Stunning color! Wonderful photo.
Have a great week!
I absolutely LOVE Bittersweet. I know where there is some in the woods, and if it ever quits raining I'll go check on it.
What a gorgeous color.

I have never seen such a thing. How pretty they are.
I am unfamiliar with this plant. Pretty exciting red!
Oh my gosh, that is so crisp a photo its luscious color jumps out at me and says "eat me, I'm juicy!"
I've never seen these flowers before, they are so gorgeous!
Wow succulent looking!
What a beautiful, interesting plant. Don't think I ever saw it before.

These bittersweet are absolutely stunning.
Oh what a beautiful shot!! The color is stunning!! Namaste, Sarah
You have captured these to perfection... the redness against the blue of the sky works so well..
that is a very pretty berry
That's a new one for me, but very bright and colourful, especially with the blue sky. Blue skies make everything better, don't they?
vibrant color no wonder the birds and animals love it they cannot miss it!
Deer, too!
Are they edible for humans? They look so appetizing.
It looks too sweet to be bitter! Great picture.
Cool berries - nice image!
What a beautiful macro. I love the color of the berries and the composition of the photo.
Ciel,
I don't think they are edible for humans. The birds don't chose to eat them till many other yummies are totally gone,
Great photo, and you're reminding me I really want to plant some in my yard.
Wow, they are bright! I can see why birds like them!
I never seen this before. Very vibrant color! thanks for the share!
