It's March and the end of ice fishing season.
So the huts are being taken off on trailers.
Yes, the ice really is thick enough to drive on. But now that it's almost spring, it won't be fafe for long!

It always amazes me that ice can get thick enough to drive on.
I'm with B Squared...even when I lived in Minnesota where the ice was about 2 miles thick, I didn't like the idea of sitting 2 miles out on a lake freezing my you-know-what off with a line through a hole waiting for some bait-challenged fishy to grab a hook!
Love the photos, though. So many memories!
It is that time, isn't it? Soon we'll have the other zippy machines on the open water!!!
I have only walked across ice one time in my life---when I lived in Virginia. We walked across Hungry Mother Lake.. I had a weird feeling the entire time though... Cannot imagine the ice ever being strong enough to hold a car... Wow!

Ice fishing. I'd like to try that some time. I doubt that I'd take any chances driving on the snow though.
I've never been to a frozen lake before. I'd be scared I'm sure.

Such awesome shots! I do hope there are NO miscalculations on the condition of that ice...I would drive out there for all the money in the world (or would I)!?
They say the Columbia River froze one winter like that long ago and cars went over it to Portland. Think this was when there was no bridge and just a ferry. I have given up on any more winter weather here sicne all the spring flowers are in bloom now. sigh

we have a lot of ice fishing too, but I just can't see how it's fun :)
When I was little we would drive the truck out on the lake and make coffee with a pot that plugged into the cigarette lighter. Never got any pics though. Good catch!
The ice fishing people around here stay out there so long. It really makes me nervous. Our ice is still pretty thick, but warmer weather on the way.

Never could figure out the fascination of ice fishing...just stay home, where it's warm, and eat fish you bought at the store. roflmao.

Nifty sign to accompany these wintry views ... I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to drive on ice or sit in one of those 'houses' to fish. Looks much too cold and dangerous to me!

I am not sure I would ever feel safe on it...I used to walk out on the strip pits here when I was young, but not now.
That is amazing. I can't imagine ice that deep and strong.
