A female with two male common mergansers, photo taken last Saturday
This photo was a challenge. The males were swimming quietly and easy to capture with my lens. BUT the female was darting in and out, moving forward, turning around. She was a "Nervous Nellie!"
Two common mergansers not at all impressed by me and my camera
I think this photo looks like a cartoon: the splashing water, the female's "hair-do." What do you think?

Very nice captures of the common mergansers. Haven't seen the real ones. Thanks for sharing.
I am going to post some Canadian geese today -- I saw another blog today with water birds too!
Bertha, we can't be seen with you today--your hairdo is just too wild.
Nice pics. I am glad you waited until 'Bertha' settled down and you got your shot. MB

Here's the geese!
Perhaps she was shopping.
I think she's trying to get them on the move and they are just ... I dunno, watching sports on tv or something.

I think that second photo is just great. It was nice of the female to allow you to get her picture.
They are such funny ducks.
Last year I was obsessed with ducks.
I even got a shot of one of these. not easy. Those females are flipping busy.
Women... ;-)
Excellent shots both.
I have very rarely seen these birds over here... yet we do get them.. you have captured them so well.
Hahahaha! I love how they're running on the water!
I think it so strange how some birds of the same species can be so nervous and others are not scared at all! Is it because some have been around humans more....I suppose that is it.
Love everything about these two images.
These are great! Perhaps the lady will soon be laying??
Great photos -- I think you have to be there to "get" the cartoon feel.
I think too that second photo is just great.
Happy Easter...Luna
I think the photos came out just great! I tried unsuccessfully to capture the Red-breasted Mergansers, now they are paired off and leaving, 2 by 2! As a matter of fact, I didn't see any out in the harbor today at all. But, 4 Great Blues fly overhead!! FOY!!! ~ks
I love the bottom photo because of the reflection and the great action. Great shots.
Those are beautiful water birds - we do not have those here where I live.
Aren't they great? I love them. Especially dancing on the water.
It does look like a cartoon, lol. They are pretty! Even if she was being a little ornery.
Good shots, even if all the models were not co-operating.
Nervous Nellie was debating which one she would follow. Then I remember Beyonce's song, to the left, to the left....
The second photo is just a jaw dropping shot!
Super shots EG. I love photographing Mergansers. They're a challange for sure.
B.
Love it! It's just ducky! How come the female has two males? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? ;-)
Bye, guys. Your gorgeous!
Great shots. Love the second photo the most. The reflection is also fantastic.
I love the picture of the bird taking off. You caught them just at the right moment.
Well maybe the mergansers weren't impressed with your photography but I sure am! Lovely shots!
me thinks these photos are fabulous. love the captured motion in the last photo.
Great captures of the mergansers, in the second shot they're walking on water.
very good photos of the merganses.
I like this bird. We have then too. :)
Ducks seem to be all the range these days! And what great comments you've gotten for your pictures.
Lovely pictures.
Cartoon no postcard yes.. Have a great day
Pretty just pretty shot. Happy watery Wednesday.
Mine is here
Great shots. That second one is such an amazing capture that I appreciate. I always seem to miss shots like that.
Fantastic shot of birds in water.
Cute post! Great shots of the common mergansers. I have never seen them before. Love her crown of glory!

mergansers are so pretty! I haven't managed to get any pictures of them here, but we did see quit a few the other day. Great post :)
The female's hairdo was the first thing I noticed! On the punk-ish side, isn't she? A girl after my own heart. :D
Love how you caught the males in the second photo just before take-off — running on water!
