Seen near the railroad tracks in Mount Albert (East Gwillimbury)
One of my favourite places to look for photogenic bugs, butterflies and wildflowers is alongside railroad tracks. But it seems like many wildflowers here have finished flowering early this year due to the heat we've had. (Is this my imagination playing tricks on me?) A few are hanging on. Here are a few, starting with the rectangle and then moving clockwise: mixed wildflowers (Queen Anne's lace, goldenrod, purple loosestrife and cattails), goldenrod (Solidago - but I have no clue as to which one), chicory (Chichorium intybus), spotted knotweed (Centaurea maculosa) and widow skimmer dragonfly.

Lovely flowers, a nice surprise with the dragonfly.
It seems like all the flowers have been early this year - the peonies finished before my birthday, the goldenrod was blooming late in July - I hope this does not mean the winter will also be early...
I don't think it's your imagination -- we've noticed fewer flowers for this time of the year as well. But I'm glad these hung around (with the dragonfly) for you to include in your mosaic.

Yes, everything was early this year and over quickly because of the heat. I have an ancient apple tree that produces early apples every August.... but this year they were even earlier and most of them had dropped on the ground and were brown and squishy by the middle of july. I love your wild flower pictures.

Beautiful flowers and an interesting dragonfly! Dog days of 2010 are not yet over. We are within 3 days of the record of 56 days over 90 F and 2 more are rpedicted for this weekend.

Wonderful selection of wildflowers and that dragonfly is one I see in my garden. I find that rain has a lot to do with how soon flowers go to seed. Although queen anne's lace is long gone here, other flowers which often go to seed earlier from heat are still doing well in flower since we've had a lot of rain.

Beautiful nature collage. Our summer has been extremely hot and I think it has taken a toll on the flowers.
It does seem that the season is speeding up due to the heat..we have been on a mission to remove all the purple loosestrife from around the pond..it is such an invasive, but so pretty....
