Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis)
A wildflower blooming now in wet places near Rosseau, Ontario. I've tried to grow it, but my soil is not damp enough and I don't have a pond.
Growing in shallow water along the edge of Rosseau River.

I love how bright the red is - I have one here in Vancouver that has burgundy foliage - it's beautiful!
Beautiful shot of the cardinal flower. I used to grow them but I haven't had any recently. You reminded me how much I like them.
This is one brilliant flashy flower!
marvelous red here. Great captures.
I love the vibrant red colour of the flowers. Very beautiful.
I went to your blog and ended up seeing red! Wow! Amazing what grows wild up in them thar parts!
How beautiful! The red against the green is stunning!
Hmmm...I wonder if I could plant some near the pond edge...it is in the water?.....Michelle
One of my favorite flowers, mine are in bloom right now also.
That is so beautiful. I've never seen one before, in the macr it looks like there is a tiny flower at the tip of the center, upright tube. I suppose that's the pistil?
Thanks for the visit!
This is a beautiful flower. Unfortunately there is no way we could grow it at our place. Thanks for the gorgeous picture.
Thanks for reminding me.. I saw some Cardinal flowers last year for the first time, and should go back to see if they are still there.
About the Monarch caterpillars, I haven't seen any yet. We have lots of good looking Milkweed plants too. I look every day.I'll let you know when I find some.

I do love
Cardinal Flower. Just a super red. the must be another that growes anywhere. We have a Lobelia that I have always called Cardinal but it has purple-red foliage. So of course I had to look it up and...I found Lobelia speciosa which has the dark leaves and red flowers. So I wonder....
I'll have to check it out in a Nursery here. Thanks for the insight. MB
Gorgeous red!
I love their bright color...
Thanks for dropping by :)
This is very red indeed. So pretty as well.
Re: Our New Zealand weather, compared to Canadian weather it is nothing. I remember when I was in Canada, there was the record low of minus 28 F. BRRRRRR
Here , because we don't have central heating, a 5 degrees seem cold to us.
But when there is a lot of rain, it makes it miserable.
Interestingly, today, our skiing mountain, Mt Hutt has a dumping of 1 meter of snow. Some places are minus. This is the coldest night.
Oh I love to see Cardinal flowers every summer--there are some growing in a rain garden in the park where I walk in st. Paul. Is there any truer red?! Thanks for sharing.
That's pretty, EG.
Beautiful...and they would have made another fantastic Ruby Tuesday post.
