Observation tower atop Tower Hill, Parry Sound, Ontario
Parry Sound - approximately 2 hours north of Toronto - is situated on Georgian Bay, a huge arm of Lake Huron, one of the 5 Great Lakes. In fact, Georgian Bay is nearly as large as Lake Ontario, another of the 5 Great Lakes.
The sound from which the town Parry Sound takes its name
This photo was taken from about halfway up the 96-foot tall tower. There are many, many islands out there - some say 30,000.
Canadian Pacific Railway runs over and through the middle of town
As I climbed the steps to the top of the tower, I could hear the train but could not see it...until I reached the summit...and this was all I saw! Too late!
Rectangles I had to poke my camera through to take photos
Hmmm. I might have gotten a better shot of the train if I hadn't had to quickly adjust my camera to fit the lens through the openings.

I've been climbing old firetowers in Ohio and you can't even get to the top platform the trapdoor to the top is locked shut. I've been past Parry Sound a lot of times but never stopped excpt for gas.
You climbed all those stairs? I'd be huffing and puffing. The photos make it all worth it tho.

I can almost hear Gordon Lightfoot playing. Nice post.
That's quite a tower to climb. Los of steps and you did it. YAY!!!
Nice shots though. MB
I love B Squared's comment about Gordon Lightfoot! Great view from the top of the tower, in spite of the restrictions!
Looks like a fun hike. Rather breathtaking ~ in more than one way!
THANK YOU for your visit in the village MY pages ;) BEAUTIFUL PICTURES HERE! NICE WEEKS !
Wow, what a view! But that's alot of steps to climb. The lake and scenery is beautiful.
That looks like quite a climb! But what a view :D
I admire your dedication. That looks like a lot of steps to climb.
That tower gives you a great view, perfect place for shooting. Nice photos.
Wish you a happy week:-)
So Beautiful content on the traveling and visiting worth place for individual and family as well.
Some alluring photographs.
I think you did a good job with the photography during a climb like that. I usually have to stop shooting when climbing because my focus is on breathing, LOL. Looks like a beautiful place.
Climbing towers is fun but also a little scary. Love the views from up top!
That is quite a climb, but your photos are definitely worth it! Beautiful! Enjoy your day!

My first thought as I was looking at your photos was of Gordon Lightfoot; I think you can guess why. Then as I got to the end of your post and read your frustration about missing the train shot, I laughed, as I daily softly curse the shots I am MISSing. I figure for each one good shot I get, there are 100 that come out so-so to bad, and there are 1000 I see and miss to take. C'est la vie! Let it go, let it go, let it go... as my yoga instructor reminds me each class. :-D
I like the photo showing the rail wagons with piled containers, must be quite something to be the conductor...
God bless you!

I am impressed with your stair climbing abilities.
What a great view!
That is a lot of climbing but well worth the effort for that view.
I am impressed that you got as high up as you did! don't think I've ever made it past the second flight on one of these towers. Great photos.
Waah! that is a tall tower! Don't know if I can handle the climb. But it has its rewards seeing a somewhat "aerial view".
I had no idea about the tower! What a wonderful perspective from which to see the landscape below, especially the trains that bring back fond memories and always make me think of adventure.
Ooh, I could never make that climb. Good for you. Great views!

I love the view of the lake through the trees.
Do you live near Synpatico?
Have a wonderful day.
wow, that must have been too high for my liking :D
i can imagine all the other shots you took that did not make this post. what a lovely spot.
I hope the climb to the top of the tower was worthwhile, even if you did almost miss the train. I appreciated the views from the way up.
That looks like quite a workout getting to the top! But, well worth the effort for such a spectacular view...delightful, to say the least!
Wow, that is a lot of steps. The view looks fantastic and well worth the climb.

That is really cool. There were a lot of stairs to climb. ;)
Great shots. Love the variety.
You captured some wonderful vistas by climbing up that tower! I would be exhausted climbing up all thsoe stairs.
Lookout towers are cool. I used to go on them when I was a kid in Payson, Arizona and Dad was a Forest Ranger.
Great shots, I like the grilled window shots... a reminder we have caged ourselves.
the view is well worth the climb.:p
You can have that tower all to yourself. That number of steps is totally our of the question for me.
I like the views of the Sound though.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos
Have a nice week,
Greetings, Bram
