Killdeer, Hamilton, Ontario
Yesterday, on our way back from Upstate New York where we visited with family for a few days, I spotted this killdeer on the shore of Lake Ontario. They nest on the ground in shallow, usually in unlined depressions. This killdeer was trying to convince me that I had not found it's mate and nesting site....
Female and male killdeer
What do you think?

I finished my job in Jackson and am now 100% in Canada! :D
This little guy is cute. I will have to start learning the names of the birds around here.
The two of them together is very sweet.
Nice you have them back. I think the geese are heading back my way . I did hear one the other day.
These birds I know arent big and Im sure hard to get. Nice shots.
I don't think he convinced you. ;)
Very nice shots.
Killdeer are interesting. I try not to disturb them too much but watching them try and divert me is so fun.
I think you found it. Great photos of them. We have killdeer in our pasture every year. Once we found their nesting sight and put a little temporary fence around it so the horses wouldn't step on the eggs.
They are sweet looking birds, great photos.

It is the season for mating, or at least the calendar tells us so :-)

Good catch!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I like the white on its forehead. . . makes it look distinguished. How neat that you found both!

they are funny sometimes. I once spotted one that tried to chase away heard of cows. :)
I think they are adorable...but kind of dumb in their nesting choices.
Dontcha wonder how some critters get their name? "Killdeer"? C'mon. Really! How could this little thing ever kill a deer?
Nice light in these shots, EG!
And thanks so much for all your comments today...
A good shot of a wonderful bird. A good sign of Spring. MB
The killdeer should get the environmentalist to put them on an endangered species status.
It is amazing that you can get so close to them and have such clear pictures!
So lovely they are! :)
