Killdeer/Camera Critters

Killdeer, Hamilton, Ontario

Yesterday, on our way back from Upstate New York where we visited with family for a few days, I spotted this killdeer on the shore of Lake Ontario. They nest on the ground in shallow, usually in unlined depressions. This killdeer was trying to convince me that I had not found it's mate and nesting site....

Female and male killdeer

What do you think?

To join in the fun, visit Misty Dawn at CAMERA CRITTERS.

I finished my job in Jackson and am now 100% in Canada! :D

This little guy is cute. I will have to start learning the names of the birds around here.

Killdeer are interesting. I try not to disturb them too much but watching them try and divert me is so fun.

I think you found it. Great photos of them. We have killdeer in our pasture every year. Once we found their nesting sight and put a little temporary fence around it so the horses wouldn't step on the eggs.

I like the white on its forehead. . . makes it look distinguished. How neat that you found both!

they are funny sometimes. I once spotted one that tried to chase away heard of cows. :)

I think they are adorable...but kind of dumb in their nesting choices.

Dontcha wonder how some critters get their name? "Killdeer"? C'mon. Really! How could this little thing ever kill a deer?

Nice light in these shots, EG!

And thanks so much for all your comments today...

The killdeer should get the environmentalist to put them on an endangered species status.
