Ruby or perhaps cherry-faced) Meadowhawk
This is a small dragonfly approximately an inch to an inch-and-a-half long. Since the ruby meadowhawk looks very much like the cherry-faced meadowhawk, I'm not sure which meadowhawk this is.

I seriously don't like bugs, but dragonflies are curious and beautiful creatures.
Love your two outstanding shots.
Out of all the zillions of bugs in the world...I think these are brilliantly beautiful- and I don't like calling them bugs at all;)
I love your wings you captured. So BEAUTIFUL!
How in the world do you have time to focus and hit the shutter before these creatures take off again? Stunning!
I don't know how you get them to pose so nicely either - I was trying to shoot a Monarch yesterday and it would not stay still long enough for me to get focused! You are so knowledgeable about these guys - are you an entomologist?
Oh my, what a beautiful little dragonfly. Great shots too.
What a beautiful creature.
wow, that's beautiful!
That one is so very pretty!
Nice job capturing detail on such a small and mobile subject. As species go, I really like the name "meadowhawk" for a dragonfly!
I'd say ruby by the look of it's jewel like head. Great shots whatever one it is!
Wow! Great macro photo--dragonflies are such delicate looking little "bugs". Very nice shot. Mickie :)
This is great!! The only insects that ever sit still for me are bees - this shot is just great!
I have never seen red dragonflies where we live - such beautiful colors!
Oh wow...nice shot! I'm surprised it's so small!
Marvelous macros. I've never had much luck with dragonfly photos so I'm very impressed!
Hm, These dragonflies, they are everywhere:-) Nice photos.
Love this red dragonfly ^_^

I wonder if her name is Scarlett?
I know it isn't easy taking pictures of dragonflies. You've managed to find a beauty!
Great shots! Seriously, how do you know so much about all the different things you photograph?

I don't think I have seen one this color...this is gorgeous...there are some big dragonflies out at the strip pit but they are forever in flight!
Beautiful macro image, the wings are just exquisite!
I'm not sure which meadowhawk this is either. All I know is that your macros are wonderful.
Wow now thats close. Awesome take !!

I've never seen a ruby colored dragonfly. These macros are fantastic EG!
Dragonflies are not a favourit, but this one was nice.
No matter which..."a rose by any other name"----it's beautiful in color
HIDDEN SAND DOLLAR Hope you can drop by today...Happy Monday.
Yes, stunning and beautifully photographed, esp the transparent wings and the colour! The pattern on the wings are extraordinary, aren't they?!
They are everywhere this year but I have not captured one so beautifully as you did!
found your pic on Macro Monday while I was posting mine!
Love Dragonfly's and your red one is beautiful!
Gorgeous pictures! A very beautiful insect I think! :)
Bee-U-tee-full!
Well he's very pretty! He's so bright! I saw a blue one last week. :)
Now here's one I have a difficult time with. Can't focus on them all the time. Good one EG.

Absolutely stunning.
I'm impressed by your macro work - great color and so nice and sharp!
After a summer of looking at all kinds of dragonflies on the blogs, I now want to get a book and learn about them. It is shots like yours today that make me want to fill that void in my education. These macro shots are awesome....the captures so full of detail and color. They are magical.
That's a VERY striking dragonfly - the colour certainly makes up for the fact that it's 'small'!
