Streetcar fleet number 2894 built in 1923
Pass your mouse over the sepia photo to see the streetcar in colour.
This streetcar, built by the Ottawa Car Company, was retired in 1963, but....
stop, look and listen! In 1986 fleet number 2894 took on a second life...

Very cool - your mouseover to color! Love the effect, and trolley cars are great nostalgia.
Do they offer rides?
Wish we still had streetcars here! Like both photos, esp. the mouse-over. How did you do that?
I like your world, your Ontario! The railway car is "Postcard photo perfect!"
oh i love both versions!!
I like the lines of the streetcar, probably very modern at the time it was build.
You are just too clever with that mouse over thing.

the sepia looks like way back when and the color like NOW. we did not have these in the south of USA
Gorgeous train and how clever it is that the colour comes back. Thanks for including the html needed.
Wonderful images! I remember when we still had the streetcar tracks in the streets. The streetcars themselves had been gone, but it took years for the tracks to be paved over.
I love the sepia/color effect. I think I like the red version better though. :)
We took my MiL on the lock tour in Petersborough yesterday. She really enjoyed it. Thanks for the tip! :)
These railway and streetcars of old were so beautifully designed they certainly deserve to have a second life. Once functional they now function mostly as historic reminders of days gone by. When I travel it seems odd to realize current vehicles will also one day be history. :)
Recycling at it's finest!
This works nicely in sepia. I have never seen that mouseover thing before. It is cool but too much work for me!
I, too, really like the sepia and I've never seen the mouseover thing before either -- that's so cool!! Really interesting post for the day and great captures as always! Fun look at your world! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!

We have one also in Kennebunk. Never been there though.
Wonderful, I have been thinking of going there but wasn't sure what to expect. I am on a mission to see that new subway train, too!
I remember riding those with my father after the war on the Queen line. There was a conductor and a driver, and they got where they were going regardless of the snow. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River.
I like these old streetcars. You are having fun with this mouseover, aren't you?!!
How strange! Wow! Magic EG!
Love it in bw too :)
Cool effect! Love that old streetcar.
Hiya EG,
Nice one, lighting up :-)
Do they still make restaurants out of these? I remember some in Ithaca, NY.

That is awesome! I love the first shot!
Fabulous. I don't remember streetcars but I remember my grandparents and my parents talking about the ones in Vancouver, and I always wished I'd been able to ride on one.
A super post! Thanks.

I feel like a child wanting to travel in one of those. Great shots.
Love that "Stop, Look, Listen" photo! Great way to use the old streetcar.
Great nostalgic shots. Glad to see that beautiful old streetcar is being preserved.
San Francisco has put a fleet of old street cars into use on Market Street. It is fun to see them.
trolleys always remind me of san fran.
very cool mouseover effect
Hey, pretty nice! Was surprised to see the sepia disappearing at first. :D Thank you so much for sharing your photos. Appreciate it!

Great effects and trams are so cool although I have to try and avoid being run over by them!
What an interesting post and great shots. I love how you can slide the cursor over sepia to get color.
the sepia photo has a vintage feel--i like it.
I like the first photo of this streetcar. I'm glad it got a second chance.
Hi there - we still have trams in Melbourne - do you have any that are still working?
Cheers Stewart M - Australia
Those are fabulous. We have rebuilt old time trams here in San Francisco from all over the world. The are a vital part of our public transportation system.
Love your photos, and really love how you have done old and new. Wonderful
We had those in Los Angeles in the 40s. It is so sad that they were phased out everywhere! A great method of transportation...
Streetcars were replaced by automobiles. Without any thoughts of coexistence, tracks were taken away to give more space to cars which emit terrible exhaust gas. It's nice to know the streetcar is reused for another work. Love its color. The color change according to the mouse movement is so cool! Have happy days ahead.
I love streetcars. They don't have them in the UK.
They are still a means of town transport in Germany.
I'd love to ride in one!
I love such old trains. They are so beautiful. The design is a work of art.
These are fabulous pictures. We have a rail museum here in Delhi too. The old trains are really amazing to look at.
