this is one sight we share with you. almost every pond and body of water has one or more of these guys laying on logs in the sun. great shot and glad the sun is shining on you
Awww … I love turtles!! What a good shot. And if it gets too hot sunbathing it can always grab some shade by slipping back beneath the umbrella/house it carries wherever it goes. :)
I just love pictures of turtles on logs. And look at the wonderful reflection you captured, too. I can almost, but not quite, see what's inside its shell. — K

I do have IS in the 300mm F2.8, but seldom shoot it hand held because of its size. It does work fairly well when shooting out of the vehicle window and resting your arms on the window sill. I always use a tripod when possible, even with the 70-200mm, but it does work very well handheld.
East Gwillimbury is a rural town less than an hour north of Toronto, Canada's largest city.
My family calls me CameraGirl because I take my camera with me wherever I go.

Turtle Tom sure was nice to pose for you even if he was working on his tan!

What a wonderful critter. I haven't seen many turtles in the wild - this one is great.

I always like to see turtles lined up on a log getting some sun!
Funny! And such a surprise that you could get so close to him without him plopping in the water and swimming away!

At least he can take a quick dip if the sun gets too intense.
What a wonderful shot!
Love this guy!! Perfect shot. He/she is sure checking you out though. MB
He's a beauty and he sure is enjoying that sunshine.
Happy Weekend!
Great shot!! Boom & gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Wonderful capture! My daughter told me she thought turtles always look so 'serious' when they are sunning.
:O)

Fabulous shot. Love the detail. :)
There is a pond nearby with several logs like that and it is so thrilling to catch a peek of some of the turtles basking in the sun. Great pic!
I have a turtle myself, but I love to see them out in nature, basking!
Gorgeous!
Cardinal is my critter for this week, please come and see and have a have a good weekend.
Wonderful capture, I love seeing the turtles out on the logs.
He looks a little lazy! A terrific sot.
It alnost looks like it is stranded there...I know it isn't but it just kind of looks like it with the way its back feet are.
I can feel the rays :). Nice shot!
The lighting is perfect. Great shot EG!
Great lighting and composition.
