Hooded Mergansers/Nature Notes

Female and male hooded mergansers on Lake Ontario

Many birds are migrating back to their breeding areas. This pair was very shy so I couldn't get very close before they slowly paddled away. I cropped the photo so you could get a better look.

Wind messing up her "hair"

Here you can see the wind blowing the feathers in her crest. I've never seen that before!

I am linking yo World Bird Wednesday.

And me - I have neither seen that or the bird itself :))

Stunning pictures of the couple. and what a hairstyle she is having.. makes me think and wonder if we the people once adopted the hairstyle from this couple of birds.. hohoho

Have a nice day! :)

What a terrific capture of these two birds...haven't seen this particular kind before. Of course, the "do" is a wonder, and I'll bet that almost everyone comments on it. Thanks for this joyful photo!

These are such cuties! Looks like they're having fun, too. We don't have anything like them here.

I guess this is one bird species that some may say the female is showier than the male.

These are probably found around New England, too, but I can't remember seeing them.

Have you read about what is happening to the old Northfield school property?

What dear little creatures. We all have days when our hair is just unmanageable in the wind! I'll bet it becomes a game to spot all the returning water birds in the spring.
