Wilson's snipe, Carden Alvar, Ontario
Is it listening?
Yep, it heard my camera click
This snipe would be well camouflaged if it were standing in a field, but
as you can see it was feeling bold standing on a fence post, apparently
something they are well known for.
Can you hear it saying wheat wheat wheat? If it were flying overhead you might hear an eerie woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo. It's breading season and apparently there's a lot to talk about.
Notice its long beak, short neck and short legs. With it's long bill
it probes for insects and worms in wet meadows and fields, as well as
along the edges of streams and ditches.
Yep, it heard my camera click
I am linking yo World Bird Wednesday.

These are SUPER!!
Lovely photos, haven't seen a snipe yet.
What an amazing shot you got! So crisp and clear, I'm really impressed. And he certainly heard you clicking away, but that's a good thing. That let you get his good side. :)
The last photo with the alert bird in profile is wonderful.
looks like a distant relative of our willets at the beach.
I always wondered what a snipe looked like. Now, thanks to your excellent pictures, I know. Cute!

Fantastic photos ~ absolutely wonderful ~ ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
Great shots!! We used to have snipe here, but I haven't heard any in a couple of years. Maybe getting too built up...
These pictures are so nice with the green background. It perfectly coordinates with the green-tinged moss on the post.
These pictures are great. They should be in a bird identification book! They are much better than the ones in the book I have.
Nice catch! My camera has a "click" that's loud enough that I get a frame off and the bird is gone, sigh!
love that look over his shoulder. :)
ADorable little friend and the portraits are great!
I'm impressed, you know a lot about birds!

Great shots of this bird. I'm not familiar with the Wilson Snipe. I love seeing pictures of birds and learning more about them.
Your photos are amazing.. and I love this stunning Wilson's snipe.
cheers
Isn't he handsome! Love how he's looking at you over his shoulder.
These could be NG shots!!!
I don't think I've even heard of these! Great shots.
Great shots!
What a lovely bird.
This is a snipe? Holy cow! Some friends took me snipe hunting a long time ago and I never did find any snipes. Didn't find anything else, either. Not even my "friends." :-)
I learned something new today. Thank you! Love the clarity of your shots.
Thanks for sharing these photos of the snipe. That long beak is very impressive.
S/he is a real little beauty.
