Looking at the heron from this direction you are probably wondering why this is called a GREEN heron when it looks so rusty coloured. This bird's back is greenish...but it wouldn't turn around to show you.

I have only seen 2 of these little green herons before. they are amazing birds. i saw one sitting on the rope that tied a boat at the yacht club, he was diving and fishing off the rope. no, i don't have a boat, i was at the library in front of the club

Very lovely captures - I've seen only a few of these in our area, they really have a lovely green colour, especially when they fly by at eye level!
they are so blue on their backs but i guess blue heron was taken. :)
Did you speak forcefully when you said "Turn around!" Herons won't do anything unless they know you're serious. They also don't do anything for shutterbugs who bug them.

i really have to admire the sites of photographers. Have you seen my pics? Some have turned out pretty good, but I just consider them 'Luck!'

He's just lovely! The first time I saw one, I was so surprised at his silhouette, normally noticing the long-legged more graceful herons and egrets. But, I came to just love him!
Yes, we are having an "adventure" discovering Tucson...but this isn't the first time we lived here. Back in the late 70s when our daughter was very small, we were stationed here and lived on the East side. My hubby was gone a lot, and because of the heat I mainly stayed close to home. We had a beautiful back yard (I will post some pics when I get my scanner hooked to the new computer in a few months--its on layaway, the computer, not the scanner!) Plus, I didn't have a decent camera. When we had a hummingbird nest right outside out back glass door, I got some AWFUL pictures! :-) Life is just very different now.
