Standing behind the "castle" walls
The remains of a legendary White Lady's Castle - a.k.a. the 3 Lakes Pavillion - sits atop a grassy knoll across the road from a sandy beach in Rochester, New York. It's said that every year, a ghostly lady in white is sighted there. The facts are sketchy as to the apparition's identity, but some local residents - especially teens and young adults - have been known to search for the White Lady.
How do I know this? The fellow you see behind the wall told me. He also told me the wall is what's left of a grand castle...

but then he hastily added - sensing my disbelief - this wall was actually a lookout point built in 1911 for a picnic pavilion that stood behind it.

The pavilion is long gone. It fell into disrepair during the Great Depression.

a beautiful wall it is and i can't help thinking how much work was involved with building it with all those rocks.

That's a beautiful wall regardless of its purpose!
It certainly looks like a castle wall. And as for the ghost she can clearly be seen riding a bicycle in your second photo.
The wall is a beautiful addition to the landscape and the story was fun too!
The older stone gets the more beautiful and mysterious it looks. I enjoyed this tale and how it crept over time like vines around this intriguing barrier. :)

I like the stone wall and if it was in another country I might believe a castle had been behind it but alas we're shot on castles in north America. Interesting story of the apparition.

The white lady may have long since fled the scene but the wall remains and it's beautiful.

What a nice story, the wall is pretty and something does seem to be missing from behind. The woods behind the wall do make a pretty scene. Lovely photos.

You need to be going out there in the dead of night to capture a photo of the ghost!

I love mysteries such as this. I wish we could save all of our wonderful architecture rather than have it fall into disrepair from neglect...that is why I love to photograph many different things as time passes and some beauties no longer remain.

I like the castle story and the haunting legend. The texture in the wall makes me think of the hands that may have built it before the moderns tools we have now that might make the task easier and/or faster.
If this stone wall is anything to go by, I sure would have loved to see the whole castle.
It is very interesting to visit places like this. All the history. I would love to be there with my camera.

I love ghost stories. If you go there someday during Obon season (August 13 to 15), you may see the White lady. In Japan, in Obon season the spirits of the dead come back to stay with their families for three days.
