Male American kestrel (Falco sparverius)
Perching on a utility wire, this colourful and fierce American kestrel is North America's smallest falcon.
Slate-blue head and wings, rusty-red back
Kestrels hunt in open areas with few trees and short vegetation.

So beautiful; I love hawks of all kinds but these are definitely among my favourites...second only to redtail hawks.
he does look fierce in the second photo and oh so beautiful in both
I love its fluffy feathers and beautiful colors. Nicely captured Camera Girl.
Two nice and clear photos. I hope he didn't make any deposits when you were looking up;-0
Great details in these photos. I didn't realize Kestrals were so colorful.

Put these in the folder of pictures to be published in your coffee table bird book! Fantastic, esp. the first shot!
magnificent and majestic - well done!
Nice catch! These are beautiful and colorful little hawks. I got a picture of one in my yard a few days ago. Not as good as yours though.
I cannot come close to getting a shot this good....they fly so quickly.
These are great shots. Around here the Kestrals spook so easily and take off even when a car slows down.
Amazing. Love that fluffed look. Excellent shots.
Fierce is a good adjective for this beauty -- make up for his smaller size (as hawks go) don't they!
Fabulous captures!
Lovely pictures - the deep, clear ble sky and the beautiful birds!

Whao, CG That is an amazing capture of this fantastic bird!!!
Thanks for your fun well wishes, etc. (hug)
Kestrels are VERY difficult to get close enough to shoot. These are awesome. What lens did you use? I will not be able to post mine after seeing these. Great job!
Nice ones, with the added effect of the detailed wires. I enjoyed the claws gripping!
What a great little bird. I love the way the wire is such a different feel and texture to the bird - its a great image.
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

I think he looks cute all puffed up to keep warm ... but I know better. This little Falcon can move so quickly and hunt with a ferosity that would take your breath away, as I know you know. Beautiful pictures of a wonderful bird.
