Freezing Rain/Our World

Birdhouse trimmed with icicles

Last Friday we woke up to a world coated with ice. Yep, it's April here just like where you live but it seems someone has forgotten to tell the weather people at Environment Canada. Enough already!

Birdfeeder

I honestly don't mind winter but it is time for spring!

Out on a limb

I have to admit the ice was pretty. Dangerous, but pretty.

Cultivated grass

And the ice lasted only a few hours.

Rose hip

Before I knew it, the ice had melted. But my camera and I captured a bit of the beauty first!

The weather was frightful but the photos are delightful. I shared some icy photos too.

Can we blame this on Stephen Harper?

Wonderful shots of an unpleasant wintry blast. You're lucky that you don't mind winter; makes it easier to endure! Have a lovely and a warmer week!

Great ice shots. My favorite is the birdhouse, as someone said, it would make a great holiday card.

Beautiful shots. I wonder if this will be the end of the ice for you this winter.

Brrr, I hope the inside of the birdhouse was warmer than the outside, great series!

Glad it went away quickly, but these are pretty shots.

I'm shivering here.

You have provided us with a beautiful paean to the lingering winter. I found a Canadian goose on the golf course yesterday. I asked why he hadn't flown back to Ontario. He said, "I've heard it's still too damn cold up there for any self-respecting goose, Canadian or otherwise!"

Well, he did so say that! In fact, I'm gonna post a photo of him today sometime!

Oh it sure is pretty I found myself forgetting the danger and venturing out also to capture the beauty just as you did:) B

I think we only had one day this past winter with icicles!

The ice is very beautiful along with it's danger of snapping tree limbs etc. Great shots! Thankful we only got a bit of snow out of that storm system!

Yes, winter is also waiting for spring for the shift change.

Hello, hello, spring, where are you?

Oh, you really captured some wonderful icy moments. Frosty weather this time of year is surely a “here’s your hat what’s your hurry” kind of guest this time of year!

The storm missed us! I love it when everything is coated in ice.

It's time for Spring indeed! But I'm glad you caught these beauties. (Our weather can't seem to make up it's mind, a few days of sun, then sudden unforecast grey and cold, sigh).

Widzę, ze wiosna nie tylko do nas się spóźniała. Dość już zimie. Zdjecia mimo iż lodowe, są bardzo ładne. Pozdrawiam.
I see the spring not only to us was late. Enough of winter. Photos despite ice, are very nice. Yours.

Oh my, that looks cold. Mind you the ice makes stunning photos though. I think I've never seen a bird's house with ice on it.

Yes, it IS time for spring. I hope yours comes soon!

Very beautiful but I know I would be wanting a good dose of spring by now, even though like you I don't mind the winter.

Ahem. You might oughta check out Stone Creek this evening. You are mentioned specifically in relation to geese and Canada and East Gwillimbury.

You took some very 'cool' photos but I know you're ready for Spring! I hope that sunshine comes out and warms you this week! Sweet hugs!

Your unwanted ice storm actually produced some beautiful sights for a photographer. These are all so pretty. Hope the plants were not damaged. Thank goodness it is gone in our neck of the woods. genie

There is such a delicate beauty to ice - and you captured it! We are finally getting spring in the Ozarks, and I am SOOOOO happy!

Snowcatcher said...

Oh, man!!! I know that's so bad for the emerging plants, but what spectacular captures. Dangerous footing when you brave the ice to get shots like that, but what a reward!

Sylvia K said...

Oh, SO cold, but so beautiful, EG!! I have to admit that I'd rather enjoy the beauty from a distance, though! Glad it didn't last TOO long! I'll use this as a reminder of how lucky I am just to have rain!! And it is raining now and the sun is shining?????

I know it's cold but it made for some wonderful shot.

My goodness. I can't imagine still being frozen this time of year. Hopefully spring is just around the corner.

Oh, how beautiful! My favorite is your 2nd and last capture!
(And I'm complaining about a drop in temp.in CA. Haha, I heard you say "Big Deal!")

There's something really strange about a birdcage with icicles hanging from it!

So very pretty - but I bet you're longing for some spring too...

I had hoped we would get some of that freezing rain so I could take photos, but no such luck... Plain old snow and ice pellets...

Sallie (FullTime-Life) said...

You did get some beautiful ice shots -- but I have to admit that April snow and ice is NOT the part of Spring that I get homesick for down here in Florida!

kayerj said...

that makes for some great shots. We had a day of ice here too.

I love your icicle photos. But you're right. It's time for Spring!

I am not a fan of freezing rain for the damage it does to trees, the dangers it creates on the roads, and sidewalks. (my grandma took a bad fall due to ice this winter.)
But I LOVE it for it's photographic beauty. It's probably one of the most beautiful things.
Great shots!

I heard. My friend in Bellfountain, near Orangeville, didn't have power for several hours. Good that it was not like the 1998 ice storm.

Rose said...

I am so glad winter is gone for a while...before summer is over we will probably be looking forward to it though.

I meant to say that last photo is wonderful....actually they all are. The last three are my favorites.
