Great Egret (Ardea alba) and Canada goose
Egrets are such elegant looking birds, don't you think. The great egret was quietly fishing in shallow water, slowly bending for a better look. Then with surprising speed this bird bent down and...
YUM!
caught a fish. A little more than a century ago egrets were nearly hunted to extinction - their feathers were used as hat plumes - but they are making a comeback.

Wow great shots I cannot imagine using that beautiful bird for just the feathers I am so glad we learned our lessons. Love the Canada Goose Great Egret moment that is very cool. B
He looks like he's eying that goose in the first shot. :)
Elegant bird, glad they are making a comeback.

Great pictures!
I like the egret reflecting in the water.
I think egrets are so pretty, I'm glad they're making a come back.
Elegant and regal, indeed. I love that reflection shot!
beautiful shots with awesome reflections.
I love the GREEN in the first and all those ripples and the reflection of that beautiful heron in the second...
Great images. Yes they are rather elegant. Look like a white Great Blue Heron. MB
Great shots, the second one is terrific, love the reflection!
I did NOT know that info about the Egrets being hunted like that..... So glad that isn't the case now (at least I hope it isnt') Super shots!
You show us such lovely birds and do it so well. It always surprises me when I hear about how short sighted people were to hunt any wildlife to the brink of extinction. It would have been such a shame to lose this beautiful bird.
He is one very handsome fella!!
These always capture the imagination. They are so graceful and beautiful! Nice shots!
Beautiful shots! The egrets are graceful and pretty and I love the shot of him and the goose together.
I love these beautiful birds and we have a lot of them in Florida. They are quick, too; I'll bet that wee fish had no idea what hit him/her!
A very adept fisher!
I love the contrast between the 2 birds!
I like those long, lean legs!
Great photos. You've got to be quick to catch the action of an egret fishing!
Great hunting capture!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

I love to see the egret in flight! Great capture of this one and its fish.
Lovely shots of the egrets. I am so glad they made a come back.

The yummi-picture shure has that wow- factor. Stunning! Thank you for sharing :)
Lovely shots! The egret is a beautiful bird.
Beautiful pictures of the egret.
That second shot is a stunner EG. Awful to think these graceful birds might have been no more..the things the human race does in the name of fashion is shameful.
Very nice shots, like the one with the little fish!
I hope noone nowadays wants their feathers in hats!
Greetings Pia
That's great with the fish in the mouth! Glad to read the extinction threat is over. If only other problems could be overcome as well.
Egrets are funny-looking and cool-looking at the same time.
=)
seeing them together i kind of weird. Both are nice birds.
Very nice captures!
I wish I could have that kind of success at fishing!
Truly an elegant bird.
Not only elegant but very smart then! Good fisher! :)
God bless you!
