Back side of Balls Mill in the middle of a paint job
I LOVE it when my husband and I are searching for something and something else wonderful pops into view! We were looking for a conservation area (we found it) but on our way we happened upon an old mill in the midst of being renovated.

In its latter days of operation, this mill was indeed a flour mill.
Built in 1842
But in it's earliest days it was a carding (to make yarn) and saw mill.

Apparently the building has also housed a cooper's shop but has also been used for storage.

I hope I get to go inside one day to see what's there!

a beautiful old building, this is the kind of building I like to see... and would love to go in it. will it be open to the public? or did someone buy it to live in maybe? the window shot is my favorite today. i like what is sitting in the window to.
I too love to photograph windows and not just for the reflections they hold.

This is wonderful that it wasn't let to go to ruin. Looks like some old bottles and jars in that window. I'll bet it turns out to be an antique shop!

@Shammickite - this is actually near Cobourg. I remember Andy showing a picture of this place and I also thought Ball's Falls - confusing with that 'Hamilton' also there :)

I was in Baltimore, Maryland the other week. Interesting to know there is one in Ontario too.

It was a serendipitous moment catching the mill … and it is nice to see buildings serving different purposes over the years and maintained rather than being destroyed.
That is a great old building! It sure has been around a long time and has seen a lot of uses over the decades. I'm glad they keep it in repair. I didn't know there was a Baltimore in Ontario.
What a cool building! We love finding places like that, too. We have a favorite mill in the Smoky Mountains that we visit every time we are nearby. We always bring home some flour, too.
Gee! This must have been the week for old mills and mill houses. I'm glad there are people interested in preserving them. They add a lot of local color to our communities.

Your linky photo caught my eye because I live outside Baltimore, Maryland. Didn't realize there was a Baltimore, Ontario. Think it gets its name from the same Lord Baltimore in England?
I sure hope you do get to get inside...but have loved seeing the outside, too.
