Surprisingly Colourful/Birding

 Starling with feather

European starlings are often disliked birds, nevertheless in bright light their colours are dazzling - a shiny purple and green, not simply black as they appear from a distance.

Perhaps this starling was trying to "feather its nest."

The feather is almost bigger than he is!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

They may be a very abundant and invasive bird through some eyes...but I think they're gorgeous. As you say the iridescence is phenomenal. Love these images you've shown. Nature at its finest.

Starlings are not the most favored bird but they are living creatures and they are very shiny.

The starlings are a nuisance, but I have to admit that they are pretty birds!

I'm afraid I'm not a fan, pretty as they may be. They can be so noisy and raucous and they've made a mess coming and going from nests they make in our shop building. And I can't help but think they make life harder for smaller songbirds.

Those feathers capture the light so well!

Starling plumage is amazing when captured in the right light! And you got it in the right light!

You caught the color so well. Wonder what the bird was doing with the feather.

That's right, the sun lit up the starling feathers are beautiful colors. Yours.

what a catch. For you and the starling. :)

I agree-- we tend not to appreciate the beauty in the commonplace. You captured the iridescence of their feathers so nicely!

You're right. I love those colors, and they are surprising.

I like the name, too. Starling. It's beautiful, isn't it?
