Hummingbird moth
This critter has been visiting my Buddleia several times a day for the past few days. I cannot tell you how many failed photos I have taken of this moth because I have ditched most of them. This moth never stayed still!
I've been trying to capture the wings so you couldn't see see the motion, as in the photo below:
Example of more wing action than I wanted, plus a cloud covered the sun
To stop the wing action, I decreased the shutter speed so much that most of the resulting images were very dark. Yep, frustrating.
FINALLY, one photo nearly turned out the way I wanted.
I am linking to Madge's Weekly Top Shot.

Great shot!
Absolutely Stunning!!! I LOVE these little guys!!
Happy Weekend!!
It's so nice to know that a photographer like yourself has trouble getting a good picture too! Pretty g
Your persistence paid off! Glad that you kept at it so we could see this fine photo.
There is an award for you over at my blog today !!
Artistic closeup.
awesome! i'd have just shot hundreds of photos and hoped for the best. :)
Well you sure did a good job in showing us the wings. aren't they amazing. Hard to believe it is not a bird. I have seen them in Eastern Washington but not on this side of the mountains. MB
Great shot! I love watching these moths as they really look like hummingbirds!
We have these on our Buddleia bushes, too. I understand your frustration. Very nice result!
You really show this illusive guy!
Aloha
You framed it well.
Awesome! We have those little guys n our butterfly tree as well.
You're hard with yourself: those pictures are really beautiful , showing plenty of details. I'd be unable to take such shots!
Podobają mi się owady, ale rzadko je widuję i nas. Zdjęcia są świetne. Pozdrawiam.
I like insects, but rarely get to see them and us. The pictures are great. Yours.
What an odd creature!
I think you captured it well! I have tried before, as they visit my Hostas. They are tough to capture!
Wonderful shot of the Hummingbird moth! Happy weekend to you!
Nice shot! I've seen those moths before and they are really hard to capture in a photo. You got some good images.

Oh the joys of the digital era,at least one can play around with the settings and not have to wait for a week until the film is developed. These pictures are great.
Wow! That must have been thrilling to take this picture and have it turn out so beautifully!!! I've never even heard of a hummingbird moth....Hummingbird Heartbeat, yes....moth....no. :) Neat!
I had never heard of a Hummingbird Moth before...they are quite exquisite! Thanks for sharing, I learned something new today :)
Wonderful close up shots.
Wonderful shots of this fascinating little creature. I have never seen one.
Wow, wonderfully detailed shot... Thank you for joining in 'Weekly Top Shot #98' Hope to see you next Saturday for #99...
I think the first shot is a great shot!
I know what you mean about frustrating...there is a GB Heron that is always at the strip pits of the evening, but he is so shy, he flies before I even think about getting close.
you are good at what you do :)
I am very impressed with the results!
