Green Heron (Butorides virescens) neck outstretched
Late on Saturday afternoon a green heron flew into a local marsh to hunt for fish. Notice the focused look on the heron's face. In this position it caught several water spiders. Appetisers.
In a sunnier spot
Then it moved to a new spot.
Plop!
Feet still hanging on to the log, it bent head first and...
YUM!
it came up with a satisfying meal.

An extremely effective and yet I can't help but think an also very silly way to dine. :-)

Lovely Clicks, Have a Nice Day. . . :)
These heron are so much fun to watch when they're fishing! In that first shot, it's hard to know where the branches end and the heron begins.
Super shots!
There is something so elegant looking about a Heron on the one hand and then a sort of cartoon feeling on the other. I like them a lot.

Fantastic shots of this handsome guy!
This is a wonderful photo sequence, complete with cute commentary. I really like the light you've captured as well.
Both you and the heron showed a lot of patience. Very nice photos!
I've only seen them around playing a sneaky spy bird...NEVER seeing one catch a fish!! This is awesome.
Oh wow! You have amazing pictures of this bird.
Sorry I didn't know mum was logged in so I had deleted her comment and then logged in as me. That big fish should keep the Heron going for a while, they are such good hunters. From Findlay

Great close-ups of the Green Heron. He seemed to be having a wonderful meal :)
Great timing-- I've never gotten one with almost the upper half of its body underwater. Good-sized fish, too!
