Nature Notes

Mid September

It's feeling and looking a lot like early autumn now. A few butterflies are still searching for nectar but many wildflowers have withered and dried up. Many late-summer bloomers such as Queen Anne's lace, goldenrod and asters are all hanging in there.

Largest square: Viceroy and I'm not sure what the other butterfly is. Do you know? (A friend tells me the butterfly is a red-spotted purple.)

Moving clockwise: adult trumpeter swan with two juveniles; Jerusalem artichoke blossom; clouded supphur (I think) on wild aster; dried seed heads of  bull thistle (seeds have nearly totally blown away), and blossoms of wild aster.

Please visit Michelle at Rambling Woods for more NATURE NOTES.

I can't help you out with the identification either. I do like the photos, though!

I wish I knew, but it is beautiful whatever it's called. Those wild asters are glorious in their sweet violet shade! How quickly this summer passed.

Very pretty photos. My fall aster is in full bloom and I must get a photo before the frost hits it. Enjoy the week!
