First Nation mural
A couple of weeks ago my husband and I visited the grounds of the Great Blue Heron Casino located on land owned by the Mississagusas of Scugog Island First Nation just east of Port Perry.
This mural (and three others) is painted on an outbuilding a few yards from the casino. I like the bright colours and the simple style, which I think suits the building the murals are on.
Samples of other murals on same outbuilding
The art has been there a while. These days there's a fence and walkway that obstruct part of the murals, making me wonder if the artwork is appreciated as much in 2014 as when it was first created.
Apparently there's art inside the casino too, but we didn't go inside so I didn't take any photos.
I am Linking to Mosaic Monday HERE.

I, too, like the simplicity and storytelling aspects of the style. Oddly enough the idea of building a casino on First Nation’s land in my neck of the woods comes up every now and again. People seem to have lots of mixed feelings about it.
I love the heron with the fish in his beek...
It's a terrific series of what appears to be an element of folk art.
it is a very nice mural.
These are beautiful murals and I like their simplicity.
You have found a bird over here too.
A far cry from the Casinos in Atlantic City.
glad they did include a heron. :) neat artwork.
A most unusual style. I wouldn't have gone inside either - too much cigarette smoke.
Nice art!
Great photos of wonderful art ~ happy sunday ~

i love the tent & the kayak/canoe shots. ( :
It is simple, happy art ! :)
Interesting and colorful. Nice to see the heron with a fish in his beak.
These are so different to the normal mural...I love it all.
Great murals
Bright and cheerful! Great colors. But, in re to the first photo: shouldn't the woman be in the back seat giving directions? :)
No, actually, I'm not jealous of your winter wear. Don't know why... Oh, that's right. I do know why. I don't need it! Yea!
What a beautiful sight, such lovely artwork.
I've driven past but never gone in. I like these a lot, EG!
Very nice artwork!
Fascinating art!
I've driven past the area, but never went in.
Very interesting art. Thanks for posting about it.
Here from Mosaic Mon.
It looks like folk art, but better. See you Tuesday. Jen
I really like the simple nature of this artwork.
I like the murals so much.
Nice art and very colorful.
I like those. The Cherokee Hard Rock Casino here in Tulsa has some nice displays such as Cherokee Stickball sticks, gourds, beadwork and such on display.
Storytelling through pictures. Casino Rama has some nice artwork too but I'm always in a hurry to get to a concert inside and forget to take photos.
These are great murals. I, too like the simplicity.
I find these types of murals and the art very compelling. Lovely images to end the weekend!
Simple and cheering!
Well I'd say you won big whether you went into the casino or not !
The murals are lovely, I especially love the heron. It is a shame some of the mural is covered up.. Great shots, thanks for sharing. Have a happy week!
I like the style too!
I love the "naive" style of these murals. THey're so cute and friendly! Not what I'd expect to be on a casino, but as I don't go to them, I guess I don't really know what to expect!
Fun and colorful and I, too, like the simple style!! Cute and friendly indeed and very different for a casino!! Love it!! Thanks for sharing fun, EG, as always! Have a great week!!
beautiful murals. i don't think the indian casinos here have the same.
That is a nice theme for decoration of casino. Lovely work.
Charming murals !
What great paintings! I do hope they are appreciated.
I like the art. I wonder who the artist is?
