Sunlight on young black spruce tree
During the morning of a recent trip to Algonquin Provincial Park (two hours north of where I live), the sun shone for several hours, lighting up a popular trail through the Spruce Bog.
Packed to go camping
Would you believe we met two campers? Yep, they were about to spend a couple of nights deeper inside the park. Brrr.

Clearly a few people had already ventured down this path to enjoy the fresh air and view northern wildlife such as the Spruce Grouse. I confess that I have walked this trail a few times and NEVER seen a Spruce Grouse though!

a very beautiful scene but gosh you'd have to been keen to want to sleep there overnight in those conditions??? Would you possibly be able to stay warm and actually 'sleep'?
The snow images are lovely but belie the fact that winter can sometimes be unpleasant! Winter camping? I admire the brave souls but it's not for me. I had to participate in similar outdoor programs when I was still teaching, but it certainly did NOT make a convert out of me.
did you ask the camper when was the last time he had his head examined?? yowsa.. but it makes a great photo and that tree in the first one is amazing. decorated by God... so pretty
Having camped many times in the dead of winter, I can with utmost sincerity say that it is something I NEVER wish to do again. :-)

Much as I love winter, I don't think I'd go camping. Love how your photo has a timeless quality to it. Imagine if he had been wearing buckskin!

I have done some winter camping. It just requires a different attitude.
Beautiful shots. I know that trail very well and have walked it in winter. The rest of the year it can even be managed with a wheelchair.

I don't think I would want to go camping in the snow. I wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of the night to go out and well you know.......

Camping in the snow is not my idea of fun. Your photos are delightful.
Snow is so lovely to look at but I cannot understand why someone would want to go camping in it. I am sure it can be wondrous though if done properly and with care.
What a lovely place! and I can imagine the solitude of camping in the snow....that would appeal to me....but NOT the coldness!

Your photos present a visual delight ... sunshine in the forest creates a lot of interesting subjects. This is the way I like snow...and this is the distance I like to view snow.
People actually camping out in the snow, though, have to be a little nuts! Camping, to me, involves a room in a Marriott with a mini-bar!

Winter in all its glory is found in your photos of Algonquin Park. I can't imagine camping at this time of year, but I remember a friend used to take his school's Adventurous Club out for a couple of nights.
I think I'd prefer your way of appreciating nature's beauty, during a nice hike. The snow on the trees and a bridge is gorgeous.

I would never do that kind of camping, though my daughter has done it. Maybe that is why living on the other side of the planet doesn't seem like an unusual adventure to her.

Love the way you embrace winter! Never thought to check out the Ohio River for "ice sculpture" but will do that after seeing your photos. Your nature shots remind me that I need to get out of my yard for photo ops in the snow storm. Wonderful variety of locations and shots.

I can see the attraction to wanting to camp in that gorgeous scenery but the cold might scare me away. At least eith our cold weather this winter I find we have more sun days to balance.
It might be a pretty place to walk, but I really don't think I'd want to camp there. At least right now.
