Female happy with her zebra mussels
Last Tuesday I showed you photos of a male white-winged scoter that I saw swimming in the canal between Hamilton and Burlington. On Wednesday I spotted this femal in Whitby Harbour. They look quite different from each other, don't they?
Washing zebra mussels
I'm not sure why she kept dipping the mussels in water. Perhaps she was washing off some sand that came up with the mussels

I didn't realize any ducks ate the zebra mussels. They would be beneficial on the beach near us that is loaded with them.

They are all along the shorelines in nearby lakes. Terrible to walk on.
I would never have guess that she was the female version! Wish they would catch ALL the zebra mussels.
Surprised to learn ducks eat zebra mussels. Didn't know they ate meat in any form. Zebra mussels are an ecological disaster as they move into lakes and streams in the U. S. Midwest. Glad the ducks eat them.
