Trumpeter swans
Last Monday when these photos were taken, most of the harbour at Whitby (on Lake Ontario) was surrounded by ice but the harbour itself was either ice free or covered with a thin layer of ice.
The light on the west side of the harbour entrance
There's a snowy owl somewhere on those icy rocks, but I didn't see it.
Icicles on the east side of the harbour entrance

The scene is beautiful but I'll be glad when it's gone.
Looking more like spring already. ;-)
So beautiful birds! These pictures are wonderful, love to see the ice as detail in your first composition!
Happy Friday!

Hi EG The shots are all great however that last one takes my breath away. Have a great weekend.
Oh I have not seen any water on Lake Ontario for a long time:) Gorgeous photos. Hug B
it does look beautiful doesn't it? Even though I am ready to see tiny flowers coming up out of the soil. We still have another month of winter here and expect we will get more snow and ice.
i love the icicles. very pretty. & cold too!! ( :
A real winter wonderland, but right now I'm in the market for some spring sunshine.
That is a lot of ice
You mean to say that there was a lighthouse or any such big structures in the second picture? WOW! everything is completely gone but some mini-glaciers :-). Very lovely shots. Winter has its own beauty but I am ready for the summer.
Amazing shots. I will be the voice of dissent and say winter can stay.
The snowy owl I can understand but the rest of those dumb birds outta by further south.
Beautiful pics, though! Of the snow. Let the icy waters flow!
So icily stunning, I especially love that view in the 2nd photo (and those scary icicles!)
Great shots and what "cold" beauty this is! Wish I could make out that snowy owl.
beautiful reflections! love the 2nd shot!
Beautiful pictures, but it looks very cold !!
Terrific reflections. #2 is a gorgeous scene!
amazing to me how those lovely swans can just float around in all that icy water... they are beautiful as is the ice....
I like the icicles.
What a beautiful photos...I love all of them...Amazing shots...
These are Cold shots, EG! It's very messy here today with so much water around and still a lot of snow so there are puddles everywhere.
Crazy beautiful! I especially love that icicle shot!
Gorgeous photos! Thanks for stopping by!
Have a fab Friday :)
I always feel sorry for the birds and waterfowl when it's this cold. Wish you could've seen that owl! Keep looking and report back, okay? :)
Wonderful shots !
Nice to see the swans swimming instead of sliding! Spring flowers soon I hope!
Taht's so impressive and beautiful!
Great pics of the Trumpeter Swan. We seldom see them in the water here---just playing in the muddy fields. Well not really playing t parts of the country. MBthey are eating.
I didn't see the Owl either. Love the icicle pic.
Answer to you question: the eagles are not laying eggs yet but supposedly these Eagles come back to the same nest every year (resident Eagles) and they mate now and probable lay eggs by March at the latest. It is different in different parts of the country.
It makes such a difference if the sun is shining.
What a wonderful series!

I love the icy reflections and great shots of the swans.
Widzę, że zima nie chce od was odejść. Widoki są jednak piękne. Pozdrawiam.
I see that winter does not want to go away from you. However, the views are beautiful. Yours.
I love the light and icicles!
Wow ! Those swanns have so much more courage than me !!! I would never go in a water so cold, even with feathers to protect me !
that´s a swan we never see in Sweden. I´ts a great one. :) Love the ice images even if it is way to much to be good.
I love your icicles reflections. Great shot.
There no 'ugly duckling in the lot, birds or photos.
Beautiful and cold!
The swans are so majestic looking. I love the shot of the icicles dripping.
I am amazed that the whole of the harbour hasn't frozen over looking at the amount of snow and ice you have there.
That's a beautiful nature creation.
These are amazing pictures. The icicles look like Christmas ornaments.
Ooohh, look at that ice!
Very beautiful shots.
Splendid shots!
These are three wonderful shots.
Beautiful...love those icicles!
Perfect camouflage for a snowy owl, makes me shiver just looking at those scenes!
Amazing photos - I've never seen a snow owl, but hope I would have my camera with me if I did. The light is beautiful.
Gorgeous photos, especially the last one (Icicles).
