Residential street, Port Perry
This may not look strange to you, but the guard rail in the middle of a residential street seems very different to me. The street runs parallel to Lake Scugog. On the left side of the photo, cars drive toward where I was standing (a dead end). To go back down the street, they go to the right and up over the hill.

I'm guessing officials were concerned that the stone retaining wall wasn't enough to retain cars.
I have to agree that it does look a bit odd.

PS: The next time you are in Port Perry checkout the new business on the corner of Mary St. and Perry St. It used to be the local LCBO store.

Looks a bit strange. Maybe the idea is to protect the stone wall. Interesting. Looks like a beautiful neighborhood.

Guardrails usually guard against something. I with the others on keeping the retaining wall safe.
Hmm..guess they needed a guard rail to protect the stone wall. seems a bit much, but you know..we are a world of crazy drivers sometimes.

Someone probably had an accident there once and now it's considered "dangerous". It does make for an interesting photo though!

Perhaps it was determined to be cheaper to build the road over the than to bulldoze the hill. And because it's so close to the alternate direction they put up a safety rail?

You know, come to think of it, I can only thing of one residentual area that I have seen that has a guard rail...and that is down home. I had not thought how odd it is.

An unusual type of fence, but it does do the job! Very creative.

I would guess that an accident occurred, at some point, that prompted the guard rail.
Oh, I DO agree with others that there must have been an accident there. Surely the guard rail must let the drivers know the width of the road, maybe p;)

I like that stone wall.
Double protection must be needed in that spot. But, I also thought the stone wall is more for retaining the hillside.. Great capture for your fence post.
I sort of wonder what the road looked like 75 years ago...

Personally I think they look very artistic together and if they serve a purpose at the same time, you can't go wrong. Interesting to say the least ...

It may look odd, but definitely looks necessary! Personally, I think I'd like it a little taller, for those slippery, wintry months.
