Eastern Black swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) view 1
This butterfly is also known as the American Swallowtail or Parsnip Swallowtail. I was pleased to see this swallowtail fluttering between wildflowers in a conservation area as I have not seen a lot of butterflies this year.

I love butterflies are wonderful.
Wonderful butterfly and humming this. I greet you.
I haven't seen too many either, EG.
I don't see many butterflies at all unless I go to a lake somewhere. I used to see more around here. Great shots!
The stance (if that's what it's called) of the butterfly is perfect as it perches on the blossom. That and the contrasting colors make a perfect photo.
Great shots..glad you finally saw some!...:)JP
I love butterflies ! Your shots are so wonderful !
Have a nice weekend :)
EG, gorgeous captures of the Swallowtail. Thank you for sharing your post with my Saturday's Critters... Have a happy weekend!
Beautiful shot !
That is so very beautiful, but must be more so to see and photograph it for real as you have. i can only dream...
It's nice to see this identified.
I agree with Kate. Nice capture!
Quite a pretty butterfly!
Quite beautiful, indeed!

This flying flower catches your eyes.
I wish I saw more butterflies. I'm afraid we are losing them...

Whoa! Stunning!
we have 3 just like this in the back yard all week, they are doing the mating thing, and not sure how it works out with three... but they are flying like they are drunk and almost hitting us when we are outside... 3 like these and 2 of the big yellow and black ones.
Those pictures are awesome. What a wonderful butterfly.
I've not seen many butterflies either. I wonder if it is an effect of the drought we are in.
A stunning creature!
These are great. I never seem to see butterflies around here either. There are lots of dragonflies though!
They are so wonderful to see, for now! They'll be gone so soon.

Wonderful pictures! And he is beautiful, so are the brilliant flowers! I love his polka-dot body as well.
Pretty images.
The Black Swallowtail is so lovely, especially when light illuminates the colors of its wings. Nice shots! Have a great weekend!
Perfection!!!

I have had a Black Swallowtail caterpillar on my roof garden for the last week. It has been munching away on dill and then last night had moved over to the mint. I'm wondering if it will become a butterfly this year or hibernate until the spring. It is quite an attractive caterpillar.
Just beautiful!
Happy for you to be able to capture this beauty♡♡♡ Great photographs, EG.
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

Such beautiful butterflies! Your photos are so gorgeous!
Beautiful butterfly and excellent photos of it.
These photographs are GORGEOUS!
I love that little bit of blue on the butterfly.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
A perfect combination with that colourful flower!
Gorgeous photos CameraGirl! We have had lots of butterflies but some are looking tattered now.
I took photos of a black swallowtail last week but every one was of his wings flat out and they weren't nearly as pretty as these. Nor was the flower he was on very pretty! So needless to say I am envious of your pics!
great shots of the butterflies.
Hi Camera Girl!:) I thought I had already commented on your post, but now I see I didn't. Sorry!! It's a beautiful butterfly, and you photographed it really well.
Best Regards.
