Grown into wire fence
I think it's fascinating the way trees will grow around wire fencing. This wire fence appears to have been erected after the trees were planted.

Top and bottom of the trunk has been cut off.

That is some tree and fence art there CameraGirl! We definitely have barbed wire that the trees when used as posts just grew right over the wire!
So which do you think came first, the tree or the fence?

Trees and water do what they like. We just sit back and watch and sometimes cut. hahahaha

I like the way these remnants look... quite stark.
These images brought back fond memories of a house we formerly lived in - had trees from the original owner growing through the fence. And yes, we ended up cutting a few, as well. :)

haha. we have some of those around here, too. just yesterday, coming back from town, had to do a double-take to see what was hanging off a fence - yup, grown-in tree parts. :)
I've seen trees and fences in some places like this before. Shows how tenacious nature can be: I'll grow, despite you, dammit!!

I had a tree and fnce like this but I cut the fence and let the tree
grow!:)

I've had that happen to me EG, some mature plants get really 'attached' and hug the fence :)

it is fascinating how they do it, but not when it does it. we had one do this to our fence, and bob cut it off down to the ground, it came back even taller than it was in the beginning.... this one looks like it will not be back though. i like the left over piece hanging up in the top
Great, brings back memories of problems we had with small trees doing this on our fencing in Italy!
They sure do love growing against fences!:) I have a hard time cutting them down. In one area, I actually cut around the tree so that the tree could branch out.

I have a wisteria tree/shrub that has grown into the holder I put next to it so it would stand up but I fear it damaged the tree, although it still blooms every year but does not have lots of blossoms.

It is really clinging! Here, the tree branches grow into the power lines. The workers just have to leave them alone.

Trees are determined survivors. The ones you feature went to a lot of trouble to grow around the wire.

Usually you don't see such pieces in such a well maintained fence. Perhaps the owner has an artistic sensibility?
That is so odd! It looks like someone tried to cut the tree out of the fence. I'm not sure, though. Nice addition to Good fences!

The power of growth.
I nailed a horseshoe to our Walnut tree so the kid(s) could hang up their ponies. It started with my eldest at 4 yrs old. We lived there 30 years + 4 children and the horseshoe was well used and the tree finally swallowed the whole horseshoe. We were forced out of our little farm by "progress" and my beloved Walnut tree was cut down.
