Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes) coming in for a landing into algae
A few shorebirds are making their way south from their summer in the boreal forests of Northwest Canada and Alaska. Breeding time is nearly over now and those that did not breed this year are already returning to their winter playgrounds on the Gulf Coast and South America.
Looking for a tasty insects, crustaceans, and tiny fish
Yellowlegs are medium-sized shorebirds with long bills and...get this...YELLOW legs.
OOPS! Did it hear a camera click?
The green is grass between me and the water. I was hiding but my camera was a tad too noisy, apparently.
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

My camera has a noisy shutter also so you have to hope for the best first shot!
First signs of the end of summer? Oh dear. Well, at least I'll bet I can remember the name of that bird if I ever see it, LOL!

What a gorgeous bird!
Super little birds. I did see some in a farmers field in a wet area in the spring. Just the once. Never seen them since.
You got some excellent pictures. MB
So the early birds are the ones who did not find love up north while on vacation?
Pretty bird!
Wonderful shots of the bird, especially the first one with the action of the landing, the outstretched wings, and yellow algae.
Love the last shot! ;-)
My camera is noisy too! I hate that. But you got some amazing shots of this beauty. Congrats on a fine set!
It would be super fun to teach little people about this - and help them dress up - (Yellow Legs is easy to do) - then, they could act it out . . and feel part of the story of nature . . early in their lives . . .
Your top pic is gorgeous! The others are wonderful, too. My new camera has a silent mode. Not that I know how to use it ... lots of experimenting up ahead for me.
Pretty bird, the first shot is amazing!

"Click" is right, and you know the place and the time to do it! These are super photos. The last is my favorite. Never heard of Yellowlegs before so this is nice. I have heard of Yellowjackets. In fact I think I got stung by one once! :)
