Coot standing on ice looking for seeds
One week after saying HERE I was hoping I'd see a coot walk onto some ice, guess what! I photographed a coot on ice!
Looking for seeds or admiring its feet?

Looks a bit funny the way it stands on the ice. :) And I love the second one, I think it's admiring it's feet :D
Have a beautiful day

Their feet are hilarious and that last shot of great.
I saw on the news that ice still on the bodies of water in Ontario is a problem for migrating birds. They land exhausted and there is no water to drink or food to be found.
Great shots, he looks to be treading very carefully!
They are cool birds.
Cool coot! What feet you (the coot, I mean) have.
That one needs a pedicure!
What fascinating feet.
those are incredible FEET, never seen any like these..
The FEET have it. And probably not clumsy ether.
Cute, they do have weird looking feet! Great shots! Happy Monday!

Wow, what an interesting bird. It must have been at the front of the line when the feet were being passed out! :-) Neat post!
I think this is the first time I've seen one close up. Sometimes we take certain birds for granted.
love their snaky, angleworm type toes. :)
Those feet almost look prehistoric EG.
Looking for seeds stuck to those scaly feet? Brilliant capture!
Nice close up. You can really see their feet are not like you'd imagine.
The feet have a very reptilian look to them.
What amazing pictures. I've seen a coot but always in the water, so have never thought about its feet. Have a great day. Jo
I have never seen feet with puffy toes like this! (well, on birds, that is) They are really a sight to behold, and they look almost blue.
Those are quite the unusual feet!
Awesome close up shots!
Those feet, wow, they are BIG.
Now those are some DIFFERENT looking feet and they are big indeed!! You do find the best critters to photograph and they do start my day with a giggle and a grin! Thank you for the beauty and the fun -- as always! Have a great new week!!
my, what big ugly feet he has!! nice close-ups!!!
A new bird to me. Trying to decided what color polish I might use today.
Those feet are big! Nice shots.
Awesome set of peds. :-)
Wonderful feet shots!
Great feet, EG!
Wohooo, those feet are made for ice! No falling flat on their beak! :-)))
You are much better than a birds encyclopedia!
Gorgeous shots of this bird! These feet are impressive!
They do have really unusual feet. Fascinating.
You captured some great pics.
I agree, weird looking feet. - Margy
Oh my goodness, what great shots of the coot! They have the cutest little claws, feet, whatever the term, they have the most unique design.
Those feet are something special.
As I said before you do have a way with birds, great shots. I do feel sorry for it though on that ice...
Really great captures! Especially so up close in that second shot
They look like segmented worms.

Thanks for sharing a close up of the coot. A few weeks back I had a post about them, I didn't know what they were until one commenter said they were coots, but I shot them from afar.
Worth a Thousand Words
neat photos
Great photos of the Coot on the ice. We have Coots here in Australia but I can imagine how surprised they would be if they had to walk on ice!!
Nice shot!!
Thank you for correcting me on my goose identification. I got my post corrected.
I guess I'll never be a birder if I can't tell a goose from a swan.
So unusual.
wow what an unusual looking bird! love it
Hah! I love the caption for the second shot! If it's not admiring its feet your commenters are making up for it. And I still love those red eyes!
It has big feet for a bird!
They are cool birds!!!!
What a great shot of the coots foot! I always looked forward to when they stopped by our lake when migrating Have a blessed day!
Wow, look at those feet, cool!
Haha
Now all you have to do is wish for a shot and it comes your way. You are a photographer through and through.
=)
So neat to see! He's definitely an interesting-looking bird.
Coots are great! I love the way the mother Eurasian Coots take food back and forth to their babies. Great shots of the feet!
Sometimes you get what you wish for! :-) Very cool.
Interestingly, the (American) coot and the (European) moorhen are SOOO similar! I think the only difference that is really obvious is the color of the beaks. I just noticed that.
Wow! Those are cute coot feet! Actually, they are amazing feet...so glad you got a photograph of them. I have only ever seen them in water.
Just checking to see what I have missed...not blogging for a while yet.
