Kirkfield Lift Lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway
The waterway will open on May 15th so, as you can see, we beat the crowds. Truth be told, we drove to the lock in a car so didn't need to use the lock to be lifted (or lowered) to the other side of the waterway.
The Kirkfield Lock is is one of two lift locks in Ontario and fun to watch when it's it in operation. Last Saturday I was happy to enjoy the reflections in the water and the blue sky above.

This was a place I used to take my kids to watch the boats go up and down.
The locks are interesting to watch! Great shot, have a happy day!
I agree with comments above, so fun to watch.. first time I actually saw a locke in action was in France.. Super watery reflections EG.
I have only seen such things on tv programmes, but they look fascinating, so I am sure that it was an amazing place to visit! xx
Thanks! I needed a "lift" this morning. :-)
Looks very complicated and is quite an experience, isn't it!
never been, should put it on the list of day trips for this summer.
I have only seen locks in the movies and in blog land. i love the water in this shot.
It must be fun to see the lock in operation
Darla
such a neat engineering feat.
So interesting. Should be fun to watch it in action too.
Quite a different kind of lock than the ones on the Rideau system. I've crossed the Trent-Severn system numerous times, but haven't really followed its course.
I am fascinated by the locks and would love to see them "in person"!! Your pics, as always, are the next best thing!! And, as always, thanks for sharing the fun! Hope you have a great new week!! Enjoy!
I didn't even know such a thing existed. One great reason to love blogging is seeing new things! Great shot!
Looks so very peaceful!
A lovely photo. One day I hope to through one of those locks.
I don't think I have ever seen one this close up. You get a really good picture!
There is always a lot to see in and around locks, they're interesting places!
I have seen these in operation many years ago. Wonderful shot!
I haven't seen this one - I've seen the one in peterborough many times.
Fascinating.
That's pretty cool. Is this like a drawbridge?
Worth a Thousand Words
Great photo of a very interesting piece of engineering on the waterway.
I have to look up what a Lift Lock is, but it sure looks like a fine setup!
Have a Beautiful Day, Tina!
Peace :)
Nice reflection.

This is amazing, I would really like to see this lock at work...
Interesting. would love to see one.
It would be fascinating to visit and watch it in operation.
