Penny-farthing Bike
May 1st is City Daily Photo Theme Day. This month's theme is REVOLUTION.The 19th-century Penny-farthing's big front wheel made it possible to move forward faster with one revolution than the boneshaker, the earlier bicycle version. We've come a long way since then - today's bicycle gears are a BIG improvement over that huge front wheel.
I have no idea how you get up on one of these! Doesn't it look dangerous?

I can't remember how I got one one of these the last time I did. I think I climbed up from the back.

Good grief, one would need a stool! How on earth would you ride it? And this one is huge! I like the shadow, too. Yes, I can see where it would go pretty fast, but oh my that teeny tiny seat! Did someone have this in their yard as a decoration?

this one is much prettier and decorative than the ones i have seen on TV. i saw Mike on American Pickers ride one, he just kind of leaped up there. yes, it does look dangerous. i love the shadow bike

There's a gentleman who takes his penny farthing into our local Santa Claus Parade.... dressed in the correct outfit of the era of course.
You have managed several examples of REVOLUTION in your photo: design of bicycles and the revolutions of the wheel when riding.
I have seen people ride them but there is no way that I would ever even try.
I've seen people on unicycles riding the rough rocky trails here using poles to balance themselves. That isn't happening for me either.
It is sure pretty but I can't imagine trying to ride it.

I have often wondered how you got on one of these, and how you dismount. I don't think you could hurry either process. Great picture and shadow!

The frills are completely unexpected. When I have seen old bicycles they seemed pretty simple and unadorned.
I would not want to get on one of these, instead use it as decoration.
