Prairie Smoke seed heads (in front of a fence that you cannot see in this photo)
This is not a common wild flower in south-central Ontario, but grows beautifully on the Carden Plain northeast of where I live.
Prairie Smoke flowers
Prairie Smoke
On the Carden Plain, most of the Prairie Smoke grows within the confines of pasture fences, but a few wayward plants grow on the outside.
Inside one of the fences
The seed heads look a bit like pink smoke in the distance.

I've seen them here and there, but I didn't know the name.

I love the 'smoke' (maybe the only time I would ever say that sentence.) Beautiful wildflower and I do see the fence.
These are new to me. So beautiful. And I love the name - it's perfect!
Oh what lovely flowers! And I love the rusty fence in the background of the one shot. Beautiful!

I don't believe I have seen this flower before. It is very pretty. Love the images you posted today with that lovely rusty fence in the background.
That first shot is amazing.
The name seems very appropriate. I have seen something very like it around here, but I'm not enough of a botanist to tell if it is the same. and we have no prairies :-)
So beautiful flowers! Love them :)
I love the seed heads, they're very pretty.
What is interesting flower! Very nice photos and thanks for sharing this information about the flower.
Have a wonderful weekend.

What a beautiful plant, easy to see where it got the name.

Lovely wildflower, and a new one to me.

I've never heard of Prairie Smoke before but I think it's quite lovely. I enjoyed your photos of it and the fence very much.
So beautiful! And love the name. It would make a good title for a book or painting. But to really think about it, it would probably spark fear if prairie smoke was seen in earlier times.
Very pretty flower with a lovely name. It is sort of wispy and smokey as the name suggests.
What an interesting flower. Never heard of prairie smoke, but from your first close-up image I can really see why it's called that.
What a beautiful and interesting plant. I love that first photo - you can definitely get the "smoke" feel from it.
