Not Too Rinky Dinky/ My World

Guerin's Ice Palace

I didn't make the name up. This is really called Guerin's Ice Palace.

No one was skating the day I took this photo (yesterday, Sunday). Saturday we had our "January Thaw." Yep, a few days weeks late and much, much too short. Everything turned to mush in the heat warmth (7°C or 44°F) but by Sunday was beginning to freeze over. I bet the ice will be smooth less bumpy when skaters are allowed back on the pond.

As you can see by the red-framed nets, this is a rink for playing hockey, a place for would-be Wayne Gretzkys to play and live the Canadian dream.

What a neat place. I need the red cart---just ship it down my way. I do love ice scating. When I was 15 I went to a local all guys hockey practice (at night) and I had so much fun and the guys pushed me all over the ice (indoors)---I was the only girl there and of course I never told my mother---but it was all in fun. This is quite unique ... the green gives it a special touch!

The bits of color stand out so much against the snow. That red sleigh makes my heart pitter patter.

What a scene. It looks too good to be true. Your MM shot is awesome, too. Enjoy the week.

It seems a little small for a palace to me, but love the splash of red in the shot.

If it wasn't for the patch of melted snow right in front of The Ice Palace, that would be the perfect winter scene, complete w/ Santa's sleigh too!!!

sleigh..shmay... that is a zamboni!

i am so glad you came for a visit. for some reason i have not been able to find my bookmark of your site and for the life of me, notwithstanding that i live in ontario, i could not remember the name east gwillimbury. it was HOT on the weekend. people were wearing t-shirts outside! gotta love a canadian who thinks 7 degrees is spring.

I'm shocked at the bare ground. Better late than never? It's tease, though, is it not?

What a wonderful place to be for a vacation! Thank you for showing.I wish we had some snow and ice again , because we had nice wintry weather in the beginning of January, and that was much healthuier than this rain.

What a neat place. Is this the home ground to Toronto Maple Leafs ;)

Your photos are postcard shots. I'm glad you're seeing an end to your winter.

Guerin as in Billy Guerin? I guess the natural zamboni action of a slight thaw would smooth things out some... not gonna shave it down that way, but the ruts ought to fill in nicely.

I love it! It looks like a wodnerful recreation area for kids of all ages! Reminds me of when I was a child in Idaho, the water department always frowze their back lawn so we could ice skate FREE!

This really is another world to me. Not even a frozen puddle here. Could be a picture postcard.

These shots are really charming. I really love the first one - it almost looks black and white except for the small areas of red and green. The ice in front of the building is awesome. Great pics.

So is this normally on an island?

I love the photo, from the red sleigh to the hockey nets...so Canadian. I am hoping it stays colder as we are going to Winterlude in Ottawa on the weekend. I don't want the canal to look like this pond!

Great post: the January thaw fascinates me, it's one of our unsolved meteorological mysteries.

What fun to have an outdoor skating place. Ours are all inside, and very artificial.

Very picturesque and looks like my world too. We have many ice places to skate however none with quite a lovely name as "ice palace"
