Hollyhocks

 Macro of hollyhock

These are hollyhock days in my gardens. I live in a century home (older than 100 years old), so hollyhocks seem appropriate in my gardens.

Dark red

Many years ago I planted seeds for "black" hollyhocks. Truth be told, they were very dark red, not black.

Dark pink

Hollyhocks are biennials. But hollyhocks keep coming because they produce  many, many seeds.

Red hollyhock

Most of my plants this year are either red or pink.

These are one of my most favorite flowers. None of mine have bloomed yet, but close (I do hope). You sure captured their true beauty here.

I had some in my Sarnia garden. They were a favourite munching ground for some insects -- at least the leaves were.

How wonderful to live in a century home EG I bet you have some wonderful original features. In another 60 years my house will be too, only I won't be around to see it :) J'adore the hollyhocks, perfect for an old country garden.

I had the black (dark red) variety in my garden when I lived in Toronto. They came back one summer and then the next summer they were gone... :(

Love your hollyhocks! Mine are red to and rather unusual as they are flowering now, in our mid-winter.
