Remembrance Day/ Ruby Tuesday

FYI: MyWorld is one post below.

November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada and this is one shelf in the war section of a used-book store in Newmarket.

Every year at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Canadians pause for a moment of silence to remember the more than one and a half million men and women who’ve served or continue to serve our country.

In celebration of Remembrance Day:

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
~ John McCrae

Hi,
I just mentioned the poppy over at island rambles blog.
There are times that will not and should never be forgotten.

It is known as Veteran's Day in the US, and poppies are the perfect complement on November 11. I note that not many in the US are aware of the real allies we and the Canadians were in WWII. And together were able to destroy a real threat. Thanks to our WWII allies in Canada, as always a great neighbor!

I have read that it was a Canadian who wrote this poeme. The strange thing is, that nobody around here knows it and I live about 100 km from that place !

The only thing that would grow...

Re your comment: It was some wilted weed that had the potential for an interesting illumination. Alas, the wind blew it out of focus (very short field of depth on macro lenses at short distance)

Perfect rememberance for Ruby Tuesday. It's Veterans Day here and we do thank and remember all those who have served, and those who continue to serve, so we can remain safe in this wonderful country of ours.

Thanks for this. In these times when our military here in the US has been used for ill purpose, it's important to remember the times before when that wasn't the case.

And the times to come.

I enjoyed your MyWorld post and R-T post. Of course this is also a holiday in Belgium. In the western part of Flanders hundreds of thousend young men died in 14-18. Of course also the poppies in my R-T post

A very fine contribution for RT, 11/11 is a national holiday in Flanders (Dirk also made a beautiful log about it as you saw) and expecially on that day, but on other days too, Canada is in our hearts.

We share this same day to celebrate our military's service to their countries. We call it Veterans Day and we wear a poppy to remember too! Great post, EG, for Ruby Tuesday! :)

I remember Poppy Days, I was proud to wear them every Remembrance Day. They were an important part of my life growing up and a symbol of those who fought for our freedom. A loving tribute. Thank you.

Did you know that poem is on the back of the $10.00 canadian bill.
I stood in the rain today at the Remembrance day parade in Maple Ridge, I was visiting my Daughter, Susan of Maple Ridge Daily Photo fame.

Hi Ms. T.Guide -- this is a very nice poppy RRtU post. Thank you, it brings back some memories for me (five years, no war).
Thank you for your nice visit and comment. Yes, I was lucky to get my camera turned on and then I had to do it 'long distance' to catch him.

Did not know the story of poppies with veterans remembrance. Saw another post for the veterans with poppies in it and did not understand it. Thanks for teaching me something new. It is a great post and tribute.
