Silo with fancy roofI'm not sure why this silo has a cupola and wind vane, but it's on a farm north of East Gwillimbury. It's the same one pictured in colour at More of Me - Another Side.
However, I do know that some grain silos have been converted into "cottages" or small homes, at least one of which exists in East Gwillimbury. If this IS one of those converted silos, I wonder how the occupants arrange their furniture along the curved outside walls. The staircases must be circular, don't you think? It must be a cozy lifestyle! (I wonder where I would keep all my stuff.)
FYI: Someday I hope to get brave enough to ask the owner of the for-sure silo house in East Gwillimbury to tell me all about his/hers. I have a photo taken from the road...but I'd LOVE to see it from the the doorway side. Until then...stay tuned.

Hi There, Beautiful monochrome picture.. Love seeing barns and silos.
We use "Liquid Fence" to protect our flowers from the deer. It's a spray --and so far has WORKED. It doesn't hurt anything --but the deer don't like it.

I also can't imagine how one could ever be turned into living quarters. The smell is horrendous - could you ever get rid of it?
That is really neat! I think I would love to live in a silo like that! You could see for miles around. Reminds me of a lighthouse where people live.

A silo, really any silo, is in need of decorating, or at least to hide the utilitarian nature of these structures. The glassed in turret is perfect, giving light to the field mice and whatnot that live in the silo!
I thought when I saw this on RT that it would really be neat to have as some kind of housing if only a reading nook!

fascinating information and photo. A silo with a cupola is truly novel. The sepia works very well with this image. And, I agree with you on my website, tall date palm trees are magical and remind us all of Arabian Nights. So true!

EG, does the silo house have any windows? And I laughed picturing the furniture against the walls... Ha! Nice skylight though. :)
The silo does look like maybe it was converted. Here in CA some people convert water towers which have a similar structure. We used to stay in one every year. It was cozy (to say the least!) but funny and fun - and the staircase was like the inside of a lighthouse.
