Staring me down
On the way to Port Cunnington, Ontario, my husband stopped the car to avoid hitting this ambling porcupine. My camera begged me to jump out and take a photo. By the time I reached this guy or gal, it had made it to grassy, leafy ground and was determined to stare me down.
Its back is up to make itself look bigger
Nice, Porky!
I got the picture and slowly moved away.
FYI: Tee hee! Yes, I know I typed EG Woe into McLinky. It should read EG Wow... or Whoa, not Woe. Darn my naughty fingers! :)

Who amongst us has seen a porcupine in the wild? You! What a find. I hope you were using a big lens so as to keep your distance.
One of a kind... have a blessed weekend!
Sweet capture! He didn't look too happy. Good thing they can't really shoot their quills!
What a look it give you... ha!
Do you want my profile?
How cool is that?!!!! Well done (and carefully)!!!!
We don't get creatures like that around here. Great shots! :)
that's fantastic--I've only seen them lumbering along the side of the road. They are much bigger than one would expect.
Weren't you the brave one!! Porcupines don't live on Cape Breton. I'll never forget the first time I learned they climbed trees to eat the bark. During the winter, they had stripped this poor tree bare. ~ks
I don't think I've seen a porcupine picture on a blog before. Good job!!
An exciting find, and lovely photos of that cute little porcupine. He looks almost cuddlesome, I wish!
Super find - you did good!
Armed and dangerous but what a cute face.
Great capture! I have never seen a porcupine in the wild. (I almost spelled it porky pine--haha--I am watching the preliminaries to the Preakness while I try to catch up on blogging...I guess my mind is half here and half there)
You were brave to get so near/ I was told that they would should teir "arrows" at you.
Perfect captures! What an interesting animal! I have never seen in real life!
Have a delightful Sunday,

I'm glad that staring you down was all this porcupine decided to do. You got a couple of great pictures.
Great photo! Quite a find to see one on the ground. He's a cute little guy.
My parent's dogs used to get into these all the time at the cottage on Balsam Lake. Good shot!
Wowee!! What a couple of great shots. Sometimes we see these guys but I have NEVER captured one. Neat!!! MB
Great captures!I can't decide whether the expression in his eye is fear or challenge. Do the quills rattle as he moves?
I'm glad you're not feeling EG Woe'ish ;)
love the little porcupine
I've seen porcupines only at the zoo, never just by chance like you did, it must be so interesting! Well, this fella looks a bit hissy though... :)
God bless you!
Cezar
They are an amazing animal. We have a few of them here, but one seldom gets to photograph them. There are more in the elk range, but even there it is difficult to have an encounter such as this.
Fantastic shots! We have porcupines around here, but I've never been that close --- you are very brave!!
