The first week of spring 2011
The robins are back in East Gwillimbury staking out their territories, even though there's still some ice in the creeks. Ice has melted on fast-moving creeks (top three photos), but ponds are still frozen (middle photo on the right). There's very little ice now on or around Lake Ontario (bottom photo on the right).

Nicely done, EG. You've shown us in a creative fashion what's happening weather-wise up your way. I like that bottom right photo - seems so incongruous what with people all bundled up playing at the beach!

Yeah for the Robin! We've heard and seen them while in the woods collecting sap. It's such a good sound when you finally hear and see them after what seems like a long winter.
Spring seems to be taking a small vacation this morning.... I'm looking out of the window at SNOW!

Looking at these images I am convinced that when I return home from my winter stay in the Arizona desert I will see ice on the surrounding rivers and creeks near my woodland home! Perhaps I'm returning too soon!

I heard frogs croaking out at the strip pits the other night...a sure sign that spring has sprung...nice photo of the robin. I need to work on getting one. Of all the birds that are around, and fairly friendly, I have not tried very hard to get a photo of one.

This winter Des Moines had more robins stick around than a typical year. I didn't even realize anyone was counting, but apparently there is a formal count. Now that spring is here, I just love seeing big, fat robins.

You captured what it is like here in western NY too...but I think it should warm up a bit next week... I have been putting out meal worms and raisins for the poor robins...Michelle
