Mallard eating a small fish
Until seeing this, I had always thought mallard ducks were herbivores. But this mallard was greedily devouring a small fish. I learned something new!
I tried to capture the fish above water, but the mallard was too fast for me. Maybe next time!

i never really thought about what they eat, now we know. the ones here like bread and any people food. the photo is so good i tried to wash my hands in the water on my computer. gorgeous
This has been a goal of mine for a long time. Just once I'd like to catch a shot of the fish in the beak of any bird.

The fish must have been a specially yummy treat.
mallards will eat insects, small fish and other things..can't afford to be picky at this time of year...
You should see the chickens when they find a mouse. It wouldn't make near as pretty a picture as this though.
I also learned something from your post. I never thought of Mallards eating fish. I must say that this is a marvelous photo. The colors -- of the water and of the duck -- are fantastic.
