Windy Ridge/ Our World

View from the lookout, Windy Ridge Conservation area

Sunday afternoon,  two weeks ago, was such a lovely day that my husband and I decided to explore Windy Ridge Conservation Area east of Peterborough. It was a warmish day (for December in Ontario) but there was a bit of haze.

Fence along part of the ridge

This time of year if the weather is nice, it's important to get out and enjoy it!

As you can see, there was a bit of snow...but not much. The trail was easy to see and in some places where the trail was facing southerly, it was muddy so we had to be careful not to slip.

 Icicles on the picnic shelter

Icicles melted in the sun too.

 Bluebird house

Grass poked up through the snow and several birdhouses seen from the trail were already eagerly awaiting spring. (And winter hasn't officially arrived yet!)

Wild apples still on the trees

Hungry deer will be glad to find these apples still on the trees.

Those wild apples, still on the trees, are an important food source for deer, among many other animals of lesser stature.

That looks like a fine setting for an afternoon outside. I can almost feel the cool but fresh air.

These are all lovely but I am partial to the first one and the one of the icicles! Wonderful!

nice to see the sun in these photos as it looks wintry enough! :)

The apples make such nice decorations on the tree and I like how the ice wraps itself around the edges like cold dripping hands. Wildlife must so appreciate discovering both the apples and the birdhouse this time of year. :)

I love the starkness of winterscapes... you've done a good job of capturing that feeling! I especially like the icicles on the wooden eave.

I like those icicles. I also like not living where icicles occur. Thank you for sharing them.

Windy Ridge looks like a very interesting place to explore. I'll bet the deer are happy about those apples.

Looks like a very cool place on a relatively warm day. Don't think I'd want to be out there on a cold and windy day!

I suppose the birds and other critters love the wild apples!
