Old Steeple

In disrepair and the bell is gone (unless that's a small bell way up high)

I'd like to know more about the history of this steeple, but the building is no longer a church. So far I have not found any information about this mysterious looking structure.

Notice the ladder up to the steeple

Another view

In celebration of the old and wonderful "stuff", I  am connecting to Rubbish Tuesday HERE.

Looks like it might have housed an evangelical Protestant congregation at one time. Might that have been possible?

Such a decorative steeple. I don't think I have seen one with such pronounced column-like features before.

It is a pretty steeple even in its state of disrepair.. Great shots! Have a happy day!

It's rather beautiful but doesn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the architecture of the building - I wonder if it was once on another building?

I wonder where the bell went? A lovely looking old building, even if its no longer used...

Interesting. I'm curious about that ladder. You have some great old buildings in your area.

I can easily imagine the wonderful ring of the bell that was once there. It looks as if the rest of the architecture is still sound.

It certainly is a different looking one. And I sure do love it. Would love to know its history.

It certainly still has hallmarks of an old church, though that star window is very different.

What an interesting structure and neat photos. It does seem like the bell should be in there but big bells like that are very valuable ... possibly removed when the building changed hands? Nice post!

i have never seen a brick church with a tin roof and it looks like the steeple is tin also.. very odd and i like it...

Great shots.

It almost looks like a Star of David under the steeple. A curious building indeed.

What pretty shots.

wow! really old but still very cool!

This building has to have some interesting history. I noticed that star in the window too. I wonder who owns the place now.

It doth appear to have been around a long time what with a few wrinkles showing. Reminds me of the old children's meme done with the fingers:

This is the church
This is the steeple
Open the door
See all the people...

It is very interesting, and I bet somewhere within the history of the area there has to be something about it! It's just too wonderful not to.

It was beautiful in better days I'm sure but I like the steeple and stained glass windows.

Birdman said...

Maybe it is under repair. If not that's a long walk to ring a bell, there or not.

Fascinating!! I would love to learn the history of it! I do hope it is saved! Terrific captures for the day as always!! Hope you have a great new week!!

Judy said...

Maybe it would be mentioned in a history of the county...
It is a wonderful old building!!! I love the ornamentation on the steeple!

That is so cool. I love how ornate it is.

Such a beautiful steeple, but the ladder is a bit scary...

Such a pretty pattern on that steeple's roof. Wonder what the old roof on the church looked like before they replaced it.

It is a wonderful old church and steeple! Really neat that you noticed (and shared) that ladder. Love this.

That is so different - and beautiful!

Ginny Hartzler said...

There is a lot of intricate work on this steeple! Too bad there is no big bell to ring out! I have never seen a ladder stuck to the roof like this. So is the building abandoned now?

Beautiful old church. I do like the style and type of roof it has.

There seems to be a small bell up there, not sure though. Yeah, it is interesting to know its history. It still looks beautiful though.

Beautiful old steeple and building. That would not be easy to get up to repair it either! Great photos.

What a pity its history or fabric hasn't been preserved

It pains me to churches abandoned:( I see a little bell in the tower. But the ladder... strange...
You live so far North, I understand you've never been in CA (unless you were looking for gold, haha ) - I have never been more North than Minnesota - so we're even:)

It certainly is pretty! There also seem to be some nice stained glass windows there too.

How interesting in that. Great idea for the ladder in case of repairs. Sad it is being neglected.

Gail Dixon said...

Somehow the steeple looks older than the brick part of the building. What a nice find and photos!

Debbie said...

It's really beautiful, I hope you find some info on it!!

The steeple seems out of place on top of that building. It's beautiful.

Delightful photos and a fascinating post. Thanks for sharing.

The bell might have been removed if it was thought to be the cause of too many ding-dongs in the local village. Or maybe someone just dropped a clanger....

Have a nice week.

I don't know anything about architecture, but I know I like what you have posted. Great find, Tina!

I love this gorgeous steeple...would love to see the church inside & out! I bet the ladder was put there when the bell had to be removed for safe-keeping and they just left the ladder. Great post!

It's good that old buildings get recycled. We have a building in our town that looks like it used to be a church because there is a brick structure that must have been where sermons were announced. The rest of the building is an odd shape and looks like it is now a home. - Margy
