Sunlight and Clouds

Hazy sun over icy water, Whitby Harbour on Lake Ontario

Last Tuesday it looked cold and it WAS!  But the sun was shining! (sort of)

In the above photo between the fence and the breakwater, it looked like the harbour was only partially covered in ice. Actually, it was ALL ice, some of which (the part that's blue) had melted in the past and then refrozen.

 Light at Whitby Harbour

The second photo was taken the same day to the left of the first and, as you can see, is further out into Lake Ontario where the air was hazier as well as cloudier.

Another photo of the light

These icy scenes prove that winter does have it's beauty side to it.

Like how you captured the mist rising off of the ice.

I love the mist or snow rising off the lake in the second image!

Wonderful photos - I love the feeling of winter that comes out in them. I'm also glad we're not having that kind of winter weather here in Washington state - just rain and wind, which is fine with me.

Well, you must be in a strong frost. It looked nicely, but I prefer liquid water, not ice. Regards.

These are beautiful photos of the harbour. I like the hazy light and bit of fog (?) over the water. Have a good week ahead.

Whitby harbour looks like a great place for photographs in winter and summer. You've certainly captured the icy water and rocks that foretell how cold it is.

Love the haze around the lighthouse! So funny I popped by here today, I had intended on going to the harbour today but then the warm of the couch and dogs called me to stay put ;)

When I was in Montana over the holidays I saw steam coming off the water ... it was -13F ... I wonder how cold it has to get before steam will float above the water? Beautiful pictures.

Such lovely scenes, and they do look COLD!

That's a beautiful view. It looks so serene and undisturbed.

Re: lake in my blog
People do skate in other places so nobody really takes time to clean it. I guess people don't like skating at that exact lake right at the city centre.

Gorgeous photos of the Whitby Light. Love the mist/fog rising from the water and the ice encrusted rocks/pilings.

I take it you wandered away from your home area to take these wonderful shots of the Whitby Harbour. It does look like a chilly day by the shore, a fine day to be bundled up for a brisk walk!
