Nests Galore/ Camera Critters

Cormorants, Hamilton, Ontario

Have you ever seen so many nests in one tree? These birds are cormorants, nesting in early May on the shore of Lake Ontario in Hamilton.

The air looks smoggy because the plants in the distance are coal-fired ones. US Steel Canada is based here.

Lock/ Photo Hunter

Below the Peterborough Lift Locks

This week's Photo Hunter challenge: Lock

Peterborough's hydraulic lift locks are on the Trent-Severn Waterway, 386 kilometres that link central Ontario's "cottage country."


Looking below from above the lift locks


Yep, that's snow. This photo was taken in January, so the lift locks were closed. The locks are open from May through October.
