Great Grey Owl

Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa) in a field

Last Sunday I got to see this handsome Great Grey Owl out in a field.  It had probably been hunting voles, it's favourite food. But by the time I got there, it was watching a small group of birders that was watching it.

On a fence post

Curious, the owl moved in closer to check us all out. After a couple of minutes, it flew into a tree and turned its back on us. I guess we were boring!

Beautifully captured, but they (owls) always look as though they are judging you and finding you wanting.

They are the keepers of magic and wisdom, and if ever one is lucky enough to meet one in real life, you are truly blessed. A most stunning capture here.

I've been a lifelong owl lover but have only very rarely seen any. So that means that you have just made my day!

They are beautiful owls. I read about a photographer baiting a Great Gray Owl, he made a lot of birders mad.

Your photos are wonderful.

Owls are wonderful birds. You were lucky to see this one highlighted like this. I have taken owl photos but I never find them in a spot where I can get a real "portrait" of the bird, so I have never posted a photo of an owl.

You always have the coolest Owl pictures. I have only seen them twice. A Burrowing Owl and a Spotted Owl sitting on our fence post. That's it. Dang!!
